It comes in a box with pictures of mountains on it.
Just like in The Lord of the Rings.

And it has 5 gold rings.

The Montblanc 149.

The most iconic pen. In production since 1952.

The pen which everyone recognizes but doesn't know what it is.

This is the Special 90th Anniversary Edition which comes in Rose Gold.

@touzeen You actually started inspiring me to use fountain pens. can you suggest a beginner pen that I could buy and start writing with it to improve writing. I am looking for a cheap one something that we used to have in the childhood called hero pen. Also the ink.

@PHOENiX117 No, at least not for me.

@ryanrulez4ever Thanks!

@booo "Inspire" would be a bit strong word,I would say my aim would be to "make people aware" of the lost art of writing by hand in the Age of the Stylus. My entry pen recommendation would be a Pilot MR or a Sheaffer VFM. Please DO NOT get sucked into the world of Chinese Pens. As for Inks, for starters you cant go wrong with Parker Ink.

A few More shots of a Masterpiece.

In the end, anything is worth only how much you are willing to pay for it.

@PhOeNiX : it's individual preference, depends on writing angle pressure applied etc, I'd prefer Lamy over Shaeffer. I used Mont Blanc for a while but never felt comfortable writing. Though I have most of the popular fountain pens but I keep coming back to Lamy. There's a Pierre cardin replica on Flipkart it's good too.

@touzeen : great pen to have in your collection, nice pictures too. Thanks for sharing. What are the damages? It was retailing at 38k when I checked last.

I think the ballpen variant is for that amount. I myself picked up a LeGrand Traveller 147 in Abu Dhabi. Now I'm regretting not buying a 149 instead. :/

Congratulations. Superb collection you got there.

For anybody who wants to use fountain pen, I'd recommend getting good quality ink and basic good quality pen. Ink makes a huge difference, and low end pens from popular fountain pen makers offer high value for money.
As my handwriting is shabby, I use fountain pens, however at exams I had to use stick pen(ink based soft tip), thanks to the quality of paper at University. After I started using waterman ink, I write my papers using fountain pen. Good quality ink have good flow, little feathering, beedthrough and showthrough which make them worth it. Heck, you can write on newspaper without bleeding. While waterman and lamy ink can be used for writing exam paper, it's difficult to do the same with Camlin or Parker( Quink) in.

@drkrack retail for a 149 never was 38. This cost me 60k.
It was around 8 - 10yrs ago I guess. As I told you, I wasn't much comfortable writing with it either.

Yes, Interstingly I know a person who is an ardent fan of the 147! He never changes the refills, he changes the pen itself ! Of course he owns a Ferrari & Bentley apart from a great collection of Mont Blancs.

@letmein I actually liked the 146 in term of size and comfort but I knew if i got it, sooner or later I would want a 149...so went for the 149...Might get a used 146 later...

@Sudarshan_SMD I used a ASA Ebonite Eyedropper with Noodlers Bulletproof Black to write my General Surgery exams :) got quiet a few stares from the invigilators...

@drkrack I think i have a few more DECADES for me to be so free with money

@babhishek share pics...would love to see how NOT to maintain Montblancs, ie to see how they age with use

Noodlers Bulletproof Black to write my General Surgery exams :)
Wanted to buy a pen which had refillable ink, turns out that Noodler's philosophy is strongly against cartridges. ordered Noodler's Dragon's Napalm which includes a free Noodler's “Charlie" pen. :)

Damn touzeen, once again you have tempted me into making a purchase. Will probably get a 149 when I travel next year. The only reason I did not get a 149 was because the ones being sold in the airports came with an ink bottle and I was scared the bottle would break during the trip. So opted for the 'Traveler'

Here are a few shots of my LeGrand.

@letmein haha...I knew similar would happen to me so went for the Big Daddy right away...now having a 144 (smallest meisterstuck) and a 149(largest meisterstuck) I think im done with Montblancs....unless i get a deal on a Daniel Dafoe Limited Edition.
