A couple of weeks ago, we had written about this interesting product from a Chinese brand called Mogu. Mogu was working on producing the cheapest Android powered phablet, to cost just about Rs. 3,000. It seems that Micromax caught wind of the same, and have gotten their cheapest (as we see it) phablet till date listed on Flipkart.
Micromax A72 Canvas Viva

The Micromax A72 Canvas Viva is build for those who don't really have a budget to buy a smartphone in the first place, but desperately want a phablet anyways. The specifications speak for themselves, which are nothing but mediocre. We have seen such specifications on low end phones usually packing tiny 3 inch displays. This time, the body grew to accomodate a full 5 incher.

Micromax A72 Canvas Viva Specifications

  • 1 GHz single core processor
  • 256 MB of RAM
  • 5" WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) capacitive display
  • 3 MP rear camera
  • 0.3 MP front facing camera
  • 110 MB internal storage
  • upto 32 GB expandable storage via microSD card
  • Dual SIM (GSM+GSM)
  • 2G (EDGE), Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g
  • 10.6 mm thick, 186 grams weight
  • 2,000 mAh battery
  • Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread

The phone does have many trade-offs for the low price tag. The internal storage is paltry at just 110 MB. 3G connectivity is gone, so is half the typical amount of RAM (512 to 256 only). Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread is a dinosaur now, and the 3 MP rear camera won't be much better than the VGA front camera in still photos.

Micromax A72 Canvas Viva Price in India

We expect Micromax to price the Canvas Viva A72 at around Rs. 6,000 which actually justifies the product in itself. However, unless you're absolutely desperate for a big display you'd do better with any other handset. Else try increasing your budget to Rs. 10,000 and grab the Canvas 2 A110 instead.
