Hi Guys,
I live in 2 floored house. I have my router(300 Mbps ,single band) in 2nd floor and i hav htpc in the 1st floor.I want to stream media(Full HD) from my WD My Book Live to the htpc. I have tried streaming full hd content to laptop in 1st floor just check whether my router can handle it.So, i need wireless adapter. BUDGET 1.5k.

Which router do you have ?

What is the avg bitrate of your Full HD content ?

What bitrate did you succeed in streaming so far ?

What method are you using to stream to your htpc ?

Can you clarify answers to Q's 2 & 3 ?

1.5MB/s = 12Mb/s

you said you succeeded in streaming 3-4Mbs (presumably) megabits not megabytes.

You would like to stream a 12Mb/s avg bitrate movie now ?

You laptop is the wfi client do you know what wifi adapter it has.

USB adapter will give better results when the client is a desktop, laptops have wifi antennas in the screen and tend to do a good job already. So its unclear to me whether an adapter will provide better than what you are already getting.

Did you try moving the laptop closer to the router, did it make any difference ?

Bitrate Viewer

Get that tool and with it open

- a movie that streams successfully, mention the avg bit rate and the peak bit rate.
- a movie that does not stream successfully and do the same.

Its in bits and not bytes.
