Car & Bike Used car suggestions for beginner

Yes it was use for company ferring.
Why look at abs and etc if its just going to be for a short time and if you planning to buy 1st hand within 3yrs? I know abs etc is natural in todays world but if you dont plan speeding over 100 or 80 and just using it for in-city purpose then grab a good maruti or hyundai deal minus plus abs features.
An abs vs non abs car of same yr and make will have a considerable distinguished price gap.
Fyi i still drive my old honda city and on highways its always above 150, it got no abs or traction control. In city its plain within 60. Its all how carefully one drives and is alert about surrounding vehicles. Occasions bumper to bumper scratch and shit happens within city but make sure not to speed and bump into others for then you might miss abs.
Since I will be a new driver, I won't be too confident. So was looking for ABS.

Which year model is this city? Is it city zx or earlier version. We have city zx exi. Have crossed 1.4L Kms as first owner without much issue with it but high speed cruising is quite difficult with its gear ratios designed for city driving. 5th gear supports speeds from 20kmph so at 100 kmph itself it crosses 3k rpm. Cant imagine driving at 150 kmph. Rpm will shoot to 4-5k probably.

I have driven it at 140 kmph on pune mumbai expressway rarely just for test but high rpm kills the pleasure/ ease of driving from cars perspective.

2k rpm at 100 kmph at 5th gear would have been wonderful. My only complaint for this car. Otherwise i still love driving/ traveling with it. Lovely refinement, fantastic reliability. Butter-smooth gearshift and clutch.

Average cruising is 140-160. Have managed to touch even 180kmph on two occasions. This was 6-7 yrs back when expressway was less prone to accidents, less & sensible traffic. We reached in within 5hrs to Kolhapur from my Bandra home. Still miss those cruising days. Now expressway is way too packed and idiots cutting lanes as if practicing on some ground.
Today even if you touch 140 you are lucky. You can try nasik highway as well. My first outdoor driving was on nasik highway in rains where I first touched 140. And yeah it still got some sensible traffic & lane following than mum-pune expressway.

Rpm not an issue if you get to know the perfect time to shift the gears. And mine is very sporty driving so was able to achieve the speeds quite comfortably without any damage internally.

Also once driven old lancer and ford escort around 160 those were lovely machines as well. Must say old is gold.

Dont know why new cars struggle to reach beyond 130, if thats for safety or what.
I wanted to buy polo but when inquired the executive said not to cross 120 or your car will vibrate and some more things. That was in yr 2013.

Oh that reminds me of my old OHC a Jan 2000 Type II 1.3Exi. still one of the finest cars I've ever owned. I parted ways with her with a very heavy heart and even now I miss the sheer driving feedback that car gave. That engine was so refined and bullet proof it was just greased lightning. Unfortunately the longevity of Honda's sheet metal isn't great and rusting is a pain in the arse to deal with.. not to mention getting the alignment of those 3pc bumpers! As a beginner's car .. it will spoil you. Be warned.. she can get addictive

Does a ybody know how to check insurance history before buying a second hand car?
If I want to know if the car has been in any accident or not, what are my options?

Perfectly said mate its one hell of an addiction car. But now 19yrs of maintenance & we thought of selling it off but the rates you get are insane. 50-80k etc. We finally extended her to our family unless we find a suitable caretaker for her who will cherish her as we did. Its now difficult to maintain at par at this age given to the mumbai rusty climate with regular body touchups but still she is a great machine and well maintained. Wont be easy at all to let her go, its our first car after all.

Speak to dealer . If there is a claim, It will be via dealer only. they usually will provide the info. tell them you are buying the car and u get the info. Insurance companies won't help u with that info unless u have inside contacts.

Can you share engine rpm at different speeds like 80, 100, 120, 140, 160 in fifth gear?

I think NHC was designed for more comfort and efficiency in city driving so its gear ratios arent suited for high speed cruising. Thats why it struggles on highways. Would love to know OHC gear ratios as well if found in old archives.

I never bothered to observe rpms that closely but they were always beyond 5-5.5k . I shift gears as per the engine sounds and once on a high I just look on the road and watch the speeds. And never risk of capturing the speeds etc on phones while driving.

To get the perfect gear shift I never hit 5th gear unless I cross 80 coz anything before and you are too early. I also tried gear shifts as we usually do within city and it goes 130 slowly and by the time you think of hitting beyond, there are those turns and twists so its wasted efforts.

I dont think cars have speeds factory locked at some levels at least in cars I got traveled so far (both newest and old). Just last month we went on a trip in our managers City model 2013 5th gen he too went upto 160 with ease but rpm again naturally hits 5k+. High speeds=high rpms.

The new Skoda rapid and superb easily bypass 170 mark and not to forget Volkswagen passat which easily does 190+.

Some idiots drive their maruti swift beyond 130 that many times end up getting murdered. The car looses its stability on high speeds, becomes shaky and uncontrollable as it goes with the flow of air hence you see many accidents of swift due to over speeding. It was never designed for speeds but is purely an Indian family car. But some feel its their Lamborghini and end up either in hell or heaven.

If you are driving master then no car is tough for you but always understand your vehicle before doing something big or worse.

I have found a 2014 Brio. 33k on odo. Direct seller.

It had the following things done in the Dec 2017 service -
ENGINE WIRING HARNESS REPLACE DONE
FR BOTH SHOCKER LOWER ARM BUSH DEFECTIVE NEED TO REPLACE
INFORM TO CUSTOMER

And in Nov 2016, the following things were changed -
Replace PAD, FRONT BRAKE
Replace BOTH DISC, FRONT
BRAKE
SET.PAD FR
DISK.FR BRAKE (24

Does the lower arm bush cost a lot?
Since it already has had its engine wiring harness changed due to engine starting problem, is this car worthy of being bought?
I plan on keeping this car for 1-2 year max.

Do not think, there is any major work done. Wiring harness change could be due Rat chewing them off or related ...rest all is standard maintenance
