Considerations HTC Wildfire S/Explorer Samsung Ace

Really like the looks of HTC phones as compared to Samsung. Also Wildfire S looks like a much expensive phone then Samsung Ace in the same price range.
 
My suggestion while taking phone for an elderly person will be to go for a screen size of 3.5" or more so that its easier for them to type and select menu options. With that in mind, i would suggest to take a look at Motorola Fire XT as well, has everything that Wildfire has with a 3.5" screen. Slightly better than Ace with more RAM & higher battery mAh.

If you still wanna look at ones with 3.2" screen, may consider Sony Live as well. Nice & compact with ICS upgrade. May be a little girly though. May consider the imported ones on ebay if don't wanna stretch the budget a little.

Slightly used Defy can also be a good option.
