Video What do u guys use as power backup for LCD TVs?

Just got a 46" LCD TV as monitor for PC and the 600VA UPS that used to handle my previous 26" monitor can't handle it (which was expected).

So, a 1 KVA dedicated UPS for the TV would do? Or should i go inverter's way(but that requires external battery)? I dont need much backup- something in the 10-15 minutes range would do.

LCD displays are very prone to voltage spikes/surges too. Go for an ups/invertor if its required ,else you can use a good quality spike/surge protector (eg from:Belkin,Crabtree,Tripplite etc)so that many little problems can be protected rather than voltage related issues.

well i use a apc SUA1000uxi it outputs sinewave and apart from giving backup it doubles up as a stabilizer, although won't be as good as a dedicated IGBT based stabilizers.
this particular ups uses external batteries.

a inverter on the other hand won't do voltage regulation.

^^ that particular model needs external batteries as in APC ones or large lorry model ones?

well u can either use those sealed lead acid batteries like in other ups or use inverter batteries whick look like lorry batteries but have much thicker lead plates.
this particular ups need a pair of batteries .

^+1.. Get some ULM type batteries from AMARON or Exide... They need topup in a long time but are cheaper than SMF type batteries...

the ULM type of flooded batteries cost a lot and start from 28ah such as the exide EL range requires maintained once in 10months,comes with 4year replacement warranty.
there is also another exide model callede invaqueen 150+ which requires maintaince once in 2years.but has only 2 years warranty.

but for ur purpose u can either go for exide 6EL 28ah costs about 3.8k or the quanta SMF type 26ah costs 2k.
with either batteries u can expect a runtime of about 1hr+ with ur tv and computer.

I use the same UPS and recommend it. Whereas my previous SU-KAM sinewave UPS would still produce a small blip on the screen when the power went off, I don't even notice that the power has gone with this one. It's expensive especially if you add in two batteries, but worth it.

^^ 2 batteries are needed? that alone should cost some 17k na?

well depends on the back up time u require,if u just want 1hr of back up for ur pc and lcd u can go with a pair 26ah batteries(1 hr backup with @ 80% discharged state for flooded batteries if going for a sealed batteries u need to go with a 40ah batteries one can get a 1hr back up @ 50% discharged state) .

i need max 5 mins backup - keeping this in mind, whats the best option for me?

well that depends on the load,if u just plan on shutting ur system down or have a genset at ur place, then u can just get a apc back up range such as BR1100CI , if its for a normal low to mid spec computer then a apc BE650y should also be fine.

I have a 46" Samsung LCD TV.

Have 100% power backup in my apartment through gensets. So, if the power goes or comes back, there is disconnection of 20 seconds / 5 seconds respectively.

Can I use normal MicroTek UPSs (Rs.1700/-) for these as I do not need much back up time ? (Only for TV)

Also, if I need to put all my equipments (46" LCD/Media Player/1TB Hard Disk/Onkyo S590/Tata Sky/DVD Player) on a UPS. What capacity and what brand should I look for?

Thanks.

well i have seen pc reboot with microtech ups so does an xbox,u can go with a apc 550va model which costs 2k if u connect only ur samsung lcd and a media player, tata sky,dvd player.

with the onkyo S590 u will need a higher capacity one like BR1100.

Thanks adder.

I think it is a good idea to put APC550va to everything except Onkyo. I can live with Onkyo off for 2-30 seconds when the power goes / comes back.

BTW, will BR100 will be sufficient for everything or just for Onkyo ?
