What exactly is Government of India doing?

No matter how you look at the situation and try to blame common people, it will come back to the government. Because this government is not doing ANYTHING.
So what do you think the governmet should do. I dont see how anyone else would have acted differently, IMO they should have stopped incoming flights weeks ago, start stock piling PPE or masks weeks back.
But end result would have still ended with a lockdown.

Lets trickle down to state governments, they still dont allow everything in the essential supply chain to functions, you know why because the people enforcing it have no common sense or understand how it works.

They have placed orders for millions of n95 masks and PPE and thousands of ventilator from domestic companies and just like every other country its too little too late.

Koreans and Japanese DO NOT wear masks, even when sick ( talking about the time before this epidemic) few do, just like in India.
But their government work for their welfare. They don't hide and blame citizens for everything.
They do wear masks in public, especially if you have cold, I have been to japan.

It's not a nuclear reactor leak. It's a freaking virus and it can't fly around alone!! People can walk in the streets, but not gather together.
So much misinformation!!

Me too, both Japan and South Korea at least 5 times. They wear it for air pollution just like in India.
Now what India should do:
They shouldn't bang on pots or pan. They shouldn't light candles on 5th ( they may burn Modi's picture for the same effect)
We all know what should they do
Test everyone in hotspots, quarantine the positives as treatment not punishment and trace the contacts, do the same and continue doing.
With less than 50000 patients it's very much possible. And with 2000 patients, it should be done within 3-4 days.
6 of us tested 2650 in 7 days.

I have some questions. What is the procedure to test covid? Is it by nasal swab or by blood? How much difficult is the testing procedure? Is there any need for special labs or it can be tested in existing labs with existing equipment s? And at what rate testing kits can be produced in our country?
1.Nasopharyngeal swab. Through nasal route it's technically slightly difficult. Oral: 2 problems, the natural flora in mouth, higher risk of getting infected.
Blood for antibody titre.
2.Two processes
a. Real time reverse transcriptase PCR ( basically a nucleic acid amplification test)
b. Serology tests to detect Ig G antibody
3. Yes, can be done in most labs
4.No idea.( Bhakts may help you with that)

Please feel free to ask technical questions. Will try my best to answer. Need to take my mind off this depressing situation. So many beautiful souls lost in this tragedy.

A virus that can wipe out a lot of people of the right kind. You can walk in the streets in a western country not a spit filled streets of India, transferring the germs in there homes. I have couple of IP cameras recording 24/7 and I see every single day people spitting, walking in groups of three, play cricket, learning to drive etc

Banging pots perhaps I am against any form of pollution, most clapped. The same was done in UK, New york clapping.
What will burning modi picture do, choke everyone with smoke. Besides only a person who hates modi for what ever reason he or she has will even consider it.

All modi is doing is gauging the public with such instructions, I think the lock down may be extended. I see no other reason why he would ask some one to light candles. Just hope they don't come out and stand in groups while doing so.

You can say all about testing in theory, this is India. People don't follow home quarantine, Lie to the teeth if caught and they don't reveal who else they came in contact with. Certain sections of people turn violent against any testing or isolation efforts. There are 260+ quarantined homes in just my zip code area of 1sq/km. One such house is on the other street, guess what the Home quaratine poster has been torn off. I had to report it the police, who now have a patrol vehicle monitoring that building, just opposite to that building is a large vegetable vender.

So it all sounds easy in theory but practically in a country like india, where rules are not followed be it by the people or the enforcers, It just doesn't work like it works in the western countries or developed ones.

You think Czechs are better? To earn some money while out of work, groups of people have started making pornographic movies!!

@red dragon

Do you see this claim to be valid to promote too or it just another cheap stunt.

If it's valid, we can help others who really got the CV and if it's otherwise - let's leave it and focus on something better.
Its proof that people can be cured with OTC medications because the bulk of infections are mild.

I was listening to some one describe what his daughter caught in Uni in Jan. The Uni had no idea what it was and called it a bad flu. She described it as a five day hangover.

That uni has no clue. One of their students showed up in Cal, ignored directions to quarantine and ended up infecting a hospital and govt offices of the WB govt.

It really breaks my heart when people simply ignore our work and hold us responsible for 3 stupid comments our director general made (who is not a medical doctor).
But we all stand by him, you guys don't know how miserable he feels, he's not even going home for weeks, working 20 hours a day every day.
He has always been a fighter and an excellent administrator. A panel of 9 microbiologists prepared that faulty report and he read that.
He never put the blame on anyone.
Now someone here questioned about WHO's contribution to mankind. What can I say!!
CDC ****ed up many times, but how can we forget their contributions in modern medicine??
If this is India's common sentiment about WHO, let your PM tell it openly.
We are all professionals here.
BTW, BCG is being talked about over couple of weeks now and I wrote about past vaccination and cross immunity many times here.
It's coming as soon as this mess that WHO did nothing to prevent subsides. They will be one big shit storm from the Americans. They will not be alone for sure.

Just see the date....

They parrot out what China tells them

No human to human transmission ? Really ?

Fcuking unbelievable !!! NO WHO DOCTOR THOUGHT TO VERIFY THIS !!!

THE WHO IS AN INDEPENDENT ORG WHY IS IT PARROTING OUT THE CCP's LINE !!!

The WHO boss is getting sacked after this. The previous one called out China on SARS and warned the world. That is why none of us experienced SARS.

Point the finger at China and WHO

They're the ones who dropped us in this mess.

Do you know what AYUSH stands for? It's a completely fake news.
Yes, basically all treatment including mechanical ventilation is just symptomatic management.
Sure, go on and tell people to take OTC drugs for fever cough etc. You will have another resistant bacterial epidemic after this.
Tedros is not WHO boss, he's director general. It doesn't work like a corporate office. He has minimal control over doctors. But he's a very good administrator.
The Twitter handle is maintained by some MBA types, doctors do not monitor Twitter activities. However it was discussed after 2 days and Dr. Chan (previous DG, originally a Chinese) literally slapped Tedros during a meeting. And Tedros won't loose his job (though he should)
And do not try to put the entire blame on WHO. You Bhakts now will find WHO's responsible for India's healthcare system and Modi's insanity.

You did the same when you ran out of comments for a moment and called the account as proxy. It tell all the story what kind of audit you're talking about
Because people have done this here in the past.

Exactly an old guard like you is not making sense at all. Let others do this job
Not what some one whose posts are in low two digits should be saying :D

Oh my, you're comparing with Brits now. You will compare with their NHS too. Can imagine the fantasy world you lives in.
WHO declares pandemic on Mar 18. Modi announced voluntary curfew on Mar 23 then extends it by a week and a day later by two more.

The POINT is Modi declared a lock down when we had a fraction of the cases of the UK. That's moving fast.

I don't know what world you live in but i live in the real one.

Obviously, this entire planning of South Korea got the mention and how they tackled the situation of CV. I don't recall any planning did before announcing the lockdown.
They were unlucky with super spreaders. We are unlucky now because of those Tablighi twats. All i said has happened. They have been blacklisted and we have a bigger mess to deal with.

And you will not see any valid point in the video as it doesn't promotes hatemongers or anything relevant to them.
I don't become a hate monger just because you say so.

Our friend @red dragon mentioned about this situation multiple times but his points were simply ignored because of ground situation.
He does not inspire confidence just fear.

Final point to rub on the fantasy world - Do you understand the difference between the pre planning and course correction. I hope you do and you should call this bragging as course correction and not planning.
Perfect is the enemy of the good. Move fast. Course correct later if possible.

That bolded part seems so rich given the screw ups that happened at the WHO

BTW, instead of blaming others help your begging PM with some donations.
I hate that person, but donated to the the best of my abilities as now they are accepting transfers from foreign banks.

Your hatred of him is exactly what i wanted to expose. You are biased. Not exactly objective.

My PM does not beg, that's what the Pak PM does. He has the cases to show for it as well.

He can't stop people going for Friday prayers. We have.

Spare me the patronising, you aren't qualified to talk about the ground situation in this country.

You aren't in this country yet you seem to think you are and can say whatever you want.

You're in fcuking Spain. Help them. We'll look after ourselves just fine.

If I'm instilling fear, what did your PM do? I'm just stating what I'm seeing every minute. Unlike you I'm taking samples from nasopharynx of patients and I'm not complaining about that.
If you think SARS CoV 2 is just another flu, good for you.

Yes, I'm in Spain and you're behind a keyboard in your parent's basement. That's the difference. There's nothing new you can expose about me. I have said openly I hate this lying POS Modi.

What did your fcuking ORG do. Fail its mandate.

And so you want to blame shift on us. You are actually doing that to every country as well.

Bravo! Why do we need such an org in the first place.

Maybe the Americans just cut the funding of this useless org after this.

It is so obvious but since we have Modi haters here they are purposely blind to simple facts. Who are the real hate mongers here i wonder.

Any one who has been following the news is. Otherwise maybe we should all be quiet and you can preach your sermons in here.

Given the performance of the org you work for it does not exactly inspire confidence.

First your org fcuks up and then we should still listen to you ?

You have never admitted to any of this. You deny it ?

You said you stand by your org. It means you condone their actions.

Fantastic. And you want to blame our PM ? HAHA

The point is people can recover from mild infections. You point out the exceptions where people need extensive help. That is not representative for the majority.

Your org failed to warn us in time. Because its corrupt as shit.

Who is you bhakts ? i've pointed out facts.

You're an opposition bhakt that's confirmed.

While our government has gone the whole hog on social distancing by the lockdown, it is not doing enough to test enough people.

Apparently all samples are currently going through a screening committee which decides whether a particular case needs to be tested or not and they have the final say. If this screening committee says no, the patient won't be tested even if he/she has all symptoms of covid19. This is first hand information I got from a few friends who are working on the frontlines and it is really disheartening.

If such measures are taken to artificially reduce the number of cases, it makes zero sense to believe the numbers being pushed by ICMR. Looks like lots of the folks higher up in the chain are simply in a state of denial.
It means the test kits they're using aren't reliable enough. So they only test the ones that have a higher viral load. Otherwise there is the risk of a false negative and releasing some one infected into the population. Same story i heard from some one in the US. Come back when you're more sick.

Better ones are coming. THe mylabs ones has higher specificity instead of the generic one they were using.

Still better one is an antibody test. We have a million on order from Germany.

This one can pick up even mildly infected with better confidence.

The govt labs have a capacity of 10k tests per day. They are being used at a third of their capacity.

The private sector is being recruited as well. I expect the test numbers to go up this month as the number of infected.

Try not to panic.

Our specialist here thinks we need more specific kit. He doesn't understand the difference between sensitivity and specificity, screws up false positive and false negative.
Perfect product of WhatsApp university.
Go and read Park's textbook of community medicine to understand the basics of an epidemic.
Regarding credibility you can check my profile @ LinkedIn and Google scholar.
Director General is not our boss. We are independent consultants hired by WHO. The 36 people (8 doctors and 28 paramedics etc.) who work under me are employees of WHO.
Read up India's story of eradicating polio, you may/ may not understand the role of this organisation.

This thread and the other coronavirus threads don't deserve to be kept open if you guys cannot keep the discussion civil. Consider this the last warning.
Put forth your views without resorting to name-calling and unacceptable language.
Amen, this thread is becoming nothing but a bashing ground for some who just hates a person on the top and some who is also that and do not know the ground realities in india, with bias seemed clear as a summer daylight.

Meanwhile, what the government and companies are doing, https://www.cnbctv18.com/healthcare...or-manufacturing-to-airlift-parts-5605521.htm
"
the government is planning to airlift critical ventilator components from Shanghai in China, which is one of the key component suppliers to Indian ventilator manufacturers. A special flight to airlift components will be arranged in 2-4 days and manufacturers have to ask to co-ordinate with component vendors and arrange supplies in Shanghai.

Apart from logistics support, the government has fast-tracked all approval processes and also relaxed the criteria required to be fulfilled to secure a government order. Manufacturers having an installed base of 100 ventilators and 2 years of operations will be eligible to secure orders

As of now, two consortium's have secured government orders for 40,000 ventilators: Bharat Electronic Ltd along with Mysuru based Skanray Technologies has received the order to manufacture 30,000 ventilators. The second order for 10,000 ventilators has been given to the consortium of Maruti Suzuki and Noida based ventilator maker AgVa Healthcare

To expand manufacturing bases, the government has asked auto manufacturers to step in and experts say established ventilator makers will giving designs and validation.

Skanray is in the process of clinically validating the respirator that Mahindra and Mahindra have designed and says it can be used to sustain patients in an extreme emergency.

The government has also promised to assist these smaller manufacturers to secure finance by making advance payments. Prof Diwakar Vaish, Founder of AgVa Healthcare said, “We have received a written commitment from government that 25 percent of our order value will be paid in advance. This will be a huge help in working capital.” Skanray has received a similar advance payment commitment.

AgVa that has partnered with Maruti Suzuki is also in talks with government-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd for a similar tie-up. “Our first line in the facility that Maruti is arranging may start manufacturing in 1-2 days. When BHEL also comes on board, we plan to produce 900 ventilators in a single day in 3 parallel lines.” Our ventilators designs are already approved and validated.
"

Agva is a start up using a tablet or phone with their app to be the brains of the machine. While the mysore based Skanray which has worldwide presence through various acquisitions makes the more sophisticated ICU type ventilators.

DRDO is using all of its resources to make PPE and N99 masks, since some of materials still come from china, DRDO is using a sealant for PPE which it used in submarine applications instead of the seaming Tapes typically come from china. They can make 7000 suits a day and will ramp it up in coming days.
N99, is being made on war footing using nano technology. A total of 10,000 masks have already been made and soon per day production will be extended to 20,000.

Some bias will always be there either for or against something.Thats human nature. But when it goes into the realm of rabid fanboyism based on blind belief or fervent opposition thats when it becomes a major problem.

Can you ever say truthfully going by your posts that you have no bias as well? :p This is kinda like Intel vs AMD 1 year back.

This kind of info is what the government needs to be laying out in their nationwide announcements.

Give us the problem statement. the action plan to mitigate that and the challenges to implement the plan.

Don't treat us like 5 year olds to be distracted by shiny lights. Treat us like responsible citizens and do not tailor the disseminated information going by the lowest common denominator of Indian IQ.

I criticize the government when needed or obvious. But I don't ignore the positives and nor do I only see a person with hate filled glasses.
Some folks here openly admit they hate a person.
I have been in plenty of debates here and on other tech forms. Sony Vs others, Plasma vs lcd, apple vs others. Zune vs Ipod.

I used to give the plasma fanboys and diehard lcd haters a hard time with objective data.
