What Notebook Should I Buy?

Both the notebooks are really good.

You will get the Acer 5740G for around 42-43k INR, and the Sony notebook will damage you around 55k (not sure).

Also, if someone would throw some light on the after-sales service on both the companies would help me too.
 
Go for Acer 5740G + 3 year warranty.

The Vaio is overpriced just because of the brand name,there is no difference in service.

Sony is not Dell.It does not have specialized support like Dell has for XPS laptops.
 
^^ I second Acer + extended warranty. I got Acer 5920 two years back with 1 year warranty and extended the warranty last year after satisfied with their service. But no issues since then. :)
