what to do ????

hi everyone,
i am an electronics engg (passed out in july 2009). i want to switch to programming as my part time work. i have basic knowledge of c, c++ and data structures using c. now i want to learn java and "dot net". please suggest what to do first java or "dot net". no exposure of any kind to these languages before.

plzz suggest. and if i will learn them i will surely be going for certifications.

plzz help.

you can start with Java . Since you know C++ you must be familiar with Object Oriented Programming concepts and so Java should be easier to learn .
 
Go for Java. You can command a premium in the market. If you go for .NET then relatively easier to get a project to work on.
 
yes, you can start with java since its easy to get hold of lots of free software and tools like eclipse, JDK itself, operating system etc...

.NET you can learn later with the help of sponsored company training etc..

Its good to have both Java and .NET expertise on your resume :)
