Need this for my Dad. He is currently using a Inspiron 1564 with i3 3rd gen(IIRC). The battery on that thing is dead and I just upgraded the HDD to a SSD. He requires it for Tally and little Word processing. I personally use a MacBook Air and love the form factor. Looking for something similar with a $500-600 budget.

Few machines I have selected

Asus Vivobook F510UA (i5 with SSD @ $570)

Acer Aspire E 15 (i3 Version @ $380)
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-...id=1525880719&sr=1-5&keywords=acer+aspire+e15

Acer Aspire E 15 (i5 Version with SSD @ $599)

But I don't think they have the MacBook air form factor of a ultraportable. These machines won't be used for anything else apart from the above mentioned work, but they need to last for at least 6-7 Years. Is there anything else with in the same price bracket but smaller. I don't mind a i3 machine honestly.

Let me know...

if he uses it for tally, he might need the number keypad as well. You might want to take that into account, depends on his usage.

I'm looking forward to getting this from USA

But the bummer is warranty thing. Dell is so cool with international warranty but Acer's site says No to it blatantly.
As far as my personal experience goes these things rarely go bad. So if the price diff is 20 k then go for it.

Called up Acer helpline, they said that it will be covered by International Traveller's Warranty (ITW) which can be availed at only 2 service station, Delhi & Bangalore and there will be no warranty extension possible.

While I'm not too much of a warranty extension person but somehow I'm not convinced that the support desk was providing me very dependable information regarding the ITW. Acer India products mention it clearly if a product has ITW but I wasn't able to find anything similar on USA listings, rather it was mentioned that warranty services can only be availed in country of purchase and any repair outside needs to be paid for.
12 years back, I got one Dell from US and the warranty transfer was a breeze and then uograded it to complete cover and what a lovely experience was it owning that device. In comparison my HP of last 7 years has been a pain. Running to Nehru place everytime it decides to call it a day :banghead::banghead:
