Our self-proclaimed anti corrupt government party AAP says they will remove corruption from Delhi. What about G.B Road? Why are they not doing anything about it? Isn't prostitution & brothels illegal in India? And why are the cops doing nothing about it? Why is the government silent about it? Even Wikipedia knows about it

G.B. Road (full name Garstin Bastion Road) is a road running from Ajmeri Gate to Lahori Gate, in Delhi, India. It is a large red-light district.[1] It has several hundred multi-story brothels and there are estimated to be over 1000 sex workers.[2] It is lined with two or three-storey buildings that have shops on ground floor. About twenty of these buildings have about 100 brothels on the first floor that open at night after the shops at ground level close. It is the biggest red light area in Delhi.[3] The road's name was officially changed to Swami Shradhanand Marg in 1966.

Because in a democracy you can't just "ban area". Police can crackdown on brothels but they can't just bulldozer the area saying govt has declared entire area illegal. Police conduct raids, some are arrested & some brothels are closed down but new ones come up after some time to replace them.

Why are they not doing anything about it
It is illegal but not enforced. Going to every room and arresting few girls is too much work. When they get out they will return to their room anyway.
And don't be fooled every cop who is stationed in the area gets paid by the pimps on weekly basis and gets action for free too whenever they want it.

Because Narendra Modi controls the police in Delhi, not AAP. While you're researching places to find prostitutes and blow a load, do some basic research on how Delhi works.

As for why isnt it banned? If the woman is doing it out of choice, and the client is too, its none of your business to interfere. The laws are based on stupid morals not reality. Let people blow a load or two peacefully without getting your panties in a bunch. There are tonnes of people out there who for whatever reason dont get enough sex. If they get what they want, by paying for it, whats your problem?

And lol at banning the oldest profession in the world. Good luck trying.

Then what do AAP controls their JHADU ? Fools at AAP can do that only. Giving excuses here it would be better for you go and teach kejriwal what can be done for betterment for the womens for are into it rather calling others its non of your business, If somehting is wrong then including you has the right to ask about it.

Also if only he would have asked about it and in some way there was BJP name in it you would have blown your load differently as evey one know ur are ke-jus chamcha.

BTW by your post it feels like you really support this profession ?

I don't need a computer to research about it bro. Everyone knows about it. I simply thought of googling it and posted what I found since some people in this forum claim that everything is illegal and nothing is forgiven. This all is happening WITH the consent of the government. It's just like downloading pirated movies from the internet through torrents, and nobody enforces it because our laws are weak here

The oldest profession in the world (or the world's oldest profession) is a phrase that, unless another meaning is specified, refers to prostitution.

Prostitution is already legal in India but not the associated activities.

Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act - ITPA
The Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act or ITPA is a 1986 amendment of legislation passed in 1956 as a result of the signing by India of the United Nations' declaration in 1950 in New York on the suppression of trafficking. The act, then called the All India Suppression of Immoral Traffic Act (SITA), was amended to the current law. The laws were intended as a means of limiting and eventually abolishing prostitution in India by gradually criminalising various aspects of sex work. The main points of the PITA are as follows:

  • Sex Workers: A prostitute who seduces or solicits shall be prosecuted. Similarly, call girls can not publish phone numbers to the public. (imprisonment up to 6 months with fine, point 8)
Sex worker also punished for prostitution near any public place or notified area. (Imprisonment of up to 3 months with fine, point 7)
  • Clients: A client is guilty of consorting with prostitutes and can be charged if he engages in sex acts with a sex worker within 200 yards of a public place or "notified area". (Imprisonment of up to 3 months, point 7) The client may also be punished if the sex worker is below 18 years of age. (From 7 to 10 years of imprisonment, whether with a child or a minor, point 7)
  • Pimps and babus: Babus or pimps or live-in lovers who live off a prostitute's earnings are guilty of a crime. Any adult male living with a prostitute is assumed to be guilty unless he can prove otherwise. (Imprisonment of up to 2 years with fine, point 4)
  • Brothel: Landlords and brothel-keepers can be prosecuted, maintaining a brothel is illegal. (From 1 to 3 years imprisonment with fine for first offence, point 3) Detaining someone at a brothel for the purpose of sexual exploitation can lead to prosecution. (Imprisonment of more than 7 years, point 6)
Prostitution in a hotel is also a criminal offence.[2]
  • Procuring and trafficking: A person procures or attempts to procure anybody is liable to be punished. Also a person who moves a person from one place to another, (human trafficking), can be prosecuted similarly. (7 years imprisonment with fine for first conviction, and up to life imprisonment thereafter; point 5B)
  • Rescued Women: The government is legally obligated to provide rescue and rehabilitation in a "protective home" for any sex worker requesting assistance. (Point 21)
Public place in context of this law includes places of public religious worship, educational institutions, hostels, hospitals etc. A "notified area" is a place which is declared to be "prostitution-free" by the state government under the PITA. Brothel in context of this law, is a place which has two or more sex workers (2a). Prostitution itself is not an offence under this law, but soliciting, brothels, madams and pimps are illegal.

Subtle point here

The primary law dealing with the status of sex workers is the 1956 law referred to as The Immoral Traffic (Suppression) Act (SITA). According to this law, prostitutes can practise their trade privately but cannot legally solicit customers in public. A prostitute who seduces or solicits shall be prosecuted under the prevention of immoral traffic act. In India, prostitution itself (exchanging sex for money) is not illegal, but the surrounding activities (operating brothels, pimping, soliciting sex etc) are illegal. In particular, the law forbids a sex worker to carry on her profession within 200 yards of a public place. Unlike as is the case with other professions, sex workers are not protected under normal labour laws, but they possess the right to rescue and rehabilitation if they desire and possess all the rights of other citizens.

What i got from this is offering the service so long as it isn't publicised is legal

Yes,as long as the transaction is pvt(aka no involvement of 3rd parties like sites, middleman, pimps, brothels etc) & it is done within their own home it is not illegal. However the conditions imposed practically makes it illegal because how can someone meet a prostitute who does not seduces or solicit.

Let me put it in a different way. You cant close down prostitution. Sex is a basic need, not everyone gets it easily without paying.

The more you try to ban it, the more it goes underground and thrive more. It then becomes harder to help sex workers that are unaware about safe sex practices or want to get out of the profession. Right now when prostitution is limited to these areas, social workers & govt distribute condoms, run awareness campaigns and provide safety. Other wise these women would be exploited a lot more with no means to help them.

Please understand its *impossible* to ban prostitution and its stupid to ask for it to be closed down as rapes and other crimes targeting women would increase many folds. Lives of sex workers are bad enough without assholes trying to ban them.

I do. They do god's works. I've taught kids of prostitutes who were rescued from redlight areas. Whatever picture you have in your head about them, is absolutely wrong. These are the most vulnerable sections of the society, that do the most legwork to keep it sane. Your moral hardon will only make things worse for them and their families and perhaps your own family, when a prospective client doent find a sex worker and instead preys on someone from your family. You dont want that. Its much easier to control it when its in a particular area.

Infact sex work should be legalized, so they can be supported officially and their conditions are improved and they dont have to live in fear of police raids. People will want to get off, whether today or even a 1000 years later. Its better to support these women and help them live a dignified life.

The implication then is GB Road and similar around the country is quasi legal ? grey area

Nobody is seducing or soliciting there. They don't have hoardings etc. Understated enough to be within the rules.

lol at the topic creator. Are you 10 years old or something? BJP controls police in delhi too FYI. Police also regularly conduct raids where there are minors involved here. There are such areas in every city in india whether controlled by AAP or BJP or Congress. Prostitution will always be there as sex is a basic human need

Please try to understand the desperate situation these women are in. No girl grows up thinking "ill become the best prostitute in the world".
They are all forced into it, either by someone or their situation.
For e.g. when you read about the death of a construction worker or similar, think about the dire situation the next of kin is left in...
If these women had the opportunity to earn a living ANY other way, don't you think they would take it?
The real criminals here are the racketeers/abductors that lure/trick gullible women into this trade.
