Wireless Router Suggestion

Freaky

Yet another suggestion thread!

Alright! Let me put down my requirements - quite simple actually!

1. Share internet (Duh!)

2. Cover one floor only - Maybe at best 3 walls and a distance of 30 feet

3. Video streaming to my Xtreamer - This is the most important!

My Buffalo HP-G54S does the first 2 quite well but fails miserably in the 3rd - quite understandable since its limited by bandwidth.

I wouldn't mind buying a slightly high end unit to take care of future additional needs!

And presume all the wireless N routers come with Gigabit ethernet ?

Let the suggestions pour in

Not all wireless N routers have gigabit ethernet.Whats your budget ??, ready to buy from the US??

Many good routers are way tooo over priced in India.I have Dlink DIR 655 which is priced at 6.2K where as i got it for $40 in the US.

My vote is for Asus RT N56U if you can afford it .Even the Netgear WNDR4500 is good.

See here for review http://www.smallnetb...router-reviewed

No issues in buying from the States but how to get the same here ? Taking the SnS route is most likely to make it as costly as it retails here

Spend 1k more and get it from here with warranty.

Which is why I cant get it. Budget issues

Looks like its most likely going to be the D-Link DIR-655. Getting used for about 50$ which including shipping and customs should not be more than 5k

#[member='Freaky'] beware that the Dlink DIR 655 ships with a 110V power adapter and not a 100v-220v. I am using my friend's adapter whose router had gone kaput.

#[member='Metalspree'], how about the lil sibling of the N56, the N53? Again dual band with Gigabit ethernet- looks good on paper

netgear wndr3700. best router i have used. using it streaming on ps3 & acryan player. (also sharing the net)

will do your 3rd requirement easily. for hd on 2.4ghz it will stream 720p. but for 1080p you will need to do it on 5ghz channel.

wired gigabit would be the best option for hd content.

buy it locally as the netgear warranty for these high end products is amazing. my wan port had got spoilt due to rains and thunder. the netgear guy sent me a new router before taking the old 1 back.

i got it for 7.8k almost 2 years back i think. should be same or cheaper now.

let me know if you need any more help.

^ that review link does not open. the address is incomplete and has dots in it.

Rs 6048. use 5% or 10% coupon to get it for less.

Edit: Found this zuni wireless router for 5003 on ebay. with 7.5% coupon it comes for 4628. This tiny thing runs on usb port

Also the ebay page shows chicago seller from whom i bought previously 2 yrs back through iccworld. this time seller is the chicago dude. will there be problem buying from us seller on ebay india site?

#[member='stormblast'], did you try streaming 1080p over the 5ghz channel? Did it work without issues ? If I wanted a wired solution, can do that even now - already have a 10 ft Ethernet cable and the Xtreamer has an ethernet port which I think should suffice
<

#[member='6pack'], the Netgear is cheaper by 1.2k (
<
) in that link but will forego local warranty. Hmmm.. Decisions.. Decisions!
