Could you share the usage for the server? Is it meant for running an application specifically as server, will add SQL dB or via Remote Desktop Services, etc - Please be exact.

Additionally, you will need to add about 20K for a RAID controller card plus HDDs as well. RAM should be ECC as well.

And total number of users as well.

Does the gigabyte mobo support the xeon processor? the cpu support list does not mention any xeon products at all. Plus shouldn't a server mobo have dual lan ports or two lan cards?

Oh yeah, the Xeons are not supported since Skylake on consumer boards, only business boards.

Sorry guys for the late reply. Was stuck up with some work.
I had added following items in my Amazon cart
Gigabyte GA-X150-PLUS , Intel Xeon E3-1220 V5 , HyperX FURY Black 16GB Kit (2x8GB) 2133MHz DDR4

However, later changed my mind considering the AMC scenario
I am doing it for a friend out of good will and I don't want the person(priest and principal of the school) to take the items to service center in case something goes wrong.

So ended up fixing following with the existing AMC guy for 44K
Dell PowerEdge T20 Tower Server
Xeon E3-1225 V3 CPU: 3.2GHz (Chipset: Intel C226)
Memory: 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 UDIMM (max 32GB)
1TB Hard Disk Dell 7.2K SATA cold-swap hard disk (max 6)

I have also kept following option as a backup. The DDR3 Ram is what is causing the hesitation
HP ML10 G8 Server
Dell Power Edge T20

I had approached Dell and Lenovo as well considering their included 3 years warranty support.
To my surprise,Dell quoted following from their Bangalore office within half hour.
Final price with VAT, octroi, etc came to INR 238,048.75
Dell Quote 1 .jpg

On bargaining she tweaked the configuration and reduced it to following:
Final price came up too INR 160,356.38
Dell Quote 2 .jpg

The quotes were of no use. However I really liked the promptness of their response.

I also happened to contact www.serverbasket.com and they too have decent pricings and a good customer support

The only challenge now is with procuring OS and Ms Office.
Requirement is for 1 Windows Server 2012 and Office key for 30 desktops.

Will be ringing Microsoft Customer support tomorrow for a quote.
Microsoft is providing discounts for school it seems.
