Computer table ideas

I'm looking for ideas for a nice computer table design. I'm not a fan of those tables with PC built inside. I need something proper and ergonomic with good space for important accessories and peripherals like router, printer, speakers and even the chassis if possible. I have a full tower cabinet Thermaltake Chaser MK1. You can upload pics of your own pc table or any design which you like.

Btw I've been wanting to know something about a particular new "design" of pc tables. What does this shelf help with? What's it's purpose and benefits? Is the monitor height good? If I remember correctly this design was trended by IKEA.

Some of the designs which I like are:
1. The "curved" design in V or L shape and to be placed at the diagonal corner of the room. With some drawers on the side as shown in the pic.p5e1ymwqa9f31.jpg

2. The drawer/racks on the table. They are really neat.

3. Proper drawer underneath the tableqW3K4wG.jpg

4. Or drawers like this

My table will be built using ply and hardwood and absolutely no glass.

Thanks.

It's for maximizing usable area as it's evident in the pic itself, if all the items were on the same level the desk would've been quite cluttered.
Quite useful if you stream and use 2 monitors, all the extra room can be used to place audio interface, mic, stream deck, camera, etc comfortably.

As for the monitor height, it should ideally be at eye level, which is easily manageable with height adjustable tables and chairs as shown in pic.

One thing I can vouch for is to never use a table made out of engineered wood. They simply cannot withstand load and fall off pretty easily. If you want to keep it cheap, then at least get one made out of plywood. If you are okay with spending a bit more, then get one made out of proper wood since you wouldn't get one that is ready-made.

I don't have any specs but I visited an opthalmologist for a regular check-up a few weeks back and he suggested that the strain is least when the area of focus is 25 degrees below the horizontal. So, it is better to have the top of the monitor slightly below the eye level or at eye-level if you are using a big one.

I'm using two displays right now (laptop and a second monitor) and I'll continue to use two (but larger screens) later.
I was thinking of making it wider and larger than the one on the picture with drawers underneath.

Yea, I don't want mfd. Many readymade office PC tables are made out of mfd and they definitely aren't realiable. Not worth the money.
I'll be using hard wood as the base/frame and ply for the horizontal surface.

it depends in what area or room you are placing and whether it will remain there for the rest of its life , if in corner than go for L shape design ,have drawers to keep those usbs and accessories that you usually dont use .regarding placing monitor you have option of wall mount ,use default monitor stand ,a stepped table as shown in the Pic and the multi monitor vesa mount stand ,if i were in your place go for the multi monitor stand which would provide good flexibility . even if you are not going with vesa mount approach ,make sure that tables top / or the table frame allows the vesa mount stand to be used in future.

regarding the electricals ,if you don't have any drawer underneath the table than you can put a small shelf between rear legs of the table (make sure that your knees dont touch the shelf) use good surge protector and if possible use 2 of it ,as you would be charging your mobiles laptop connecting monitors accessories on etc. these would just keep things hidden.

If your printer has wi-fi than don`t place it at computer table ,it just sits and occupies space ,place your modem & Printer on some floating shelf if thats feasible .

regarding the wood go for hardwood ,plywood etc is not good longterm

these are good designs but if you could avoid plywood it wood be great

An alternative would be to have a VESA wall mount so the place used by the monitor stand is available for use.

To have maximum flexibility, i think a large flat table works best. Even most pc builders use a lot of IKEA products like the linnmonn tables for their setups that look clean and give enough space to hold everything, while also allowing you to fix things like cable management peripherals to the under side to give a clean look to your setup. If you are getting your table made through a carpenter, would recommend using size dimensions from the ikea table (while keeping the space you have in your room in mind of course) and add stuff like cable channels, headset hangers or cup holders according to your foreseeable need. Another option is to just buy a simple 4 seater rectangular dining table (without the chairs) and then mod it according to your use. That will also give you enough width and depth to put different things of your setup and still have room to work on it.

I don't know what people have against plywood. Any furniture made completely of solid wood will be very very expensive and very heavy. I have 20 yr old beds at my house made of good plywood boards. The trick is that the frame should be made of good wood and the frame should be designed with enough wood to support the board so that they don't warp. Of course the plywood boards should also be of good quality.

Yeah exactly my thoughts.

And the make up should be such that it should be installable in easy steps and to be taken anywhere by packing it.
Like the items being sold in flipkart which comes in boxes and next day becomes a table after being installed by the technician or carpenter in easy steps.

but local carpenters like to do easy work on plywood ,the moment you say hardwood and all that they start shitting due to the effort ,they want easy money
Yes truly said
To make the table look good
One can use veneer on the outside of the sides and decorative plywood for the table surface but this will up the overall cost of the table

Please tell me what will you make the top from, if not plywood. Do you know how expensive wooden slabs are especially if you want one wide and long enough. A 4ftx2ft slab will cost a lot. The other way is to make a slab by joining together smaller width pieces of wood and even that won't be cheap for a good piece of teak or walnut.
I am somewhat of a hobbyist when it comes to woodworking and I have gotten my doors constructed from solid wood instead of using board and it is done using the second method and it's quite an expensive process. A plywood table top can look as good and last as long as solid wood top and do it at much cheaper price. This is from my personal experience as well as what I have learnt from the furniture house where we buy our furniture from. All our beds bought from them are used making good quality board and are more than 20 years old and they cost around 30k back then. They are ready to buy them back for 50k now because they sell similar stuff for 1L+ these days. So trust me when I say this, nothing wrong in building stuff with plywood if the work done and materials used are top quality.

Also, the frame uses very less wood compared to what would be needed to make a top out of solid wood and the same frame will still be needed irrespective of that.

Edit - Just for providing estimates, in Chandigarh, just the wood for a 4ftx2ftx2inch table top constructed using the joinery method will cost around 3500 for Teak (not the good teak, but the African Teak that is available for cheap) . Any good carpenter will charge around 3-4k just to construct that table top as it involves a lot of work.
But the main issue will be that, in regular cities, it is very difficult to find carpenters who can do this work and have the machinery to do it. In smaller cities, it is still easier and in my area in Himachal it is very very easy to find carpenters who will work with solid wood, but even they didn't want to make the doors from solid wood like I wanted and I had to convince them and pay extra (which I had no problem with).

i am completely aware of pricing , frame legs need to be chunky otherwise your table will weave , and you can always opt for for old logs/pillars that were part of old wooden houses at least in Mumbai we do have the market. And as you said the wooden furniture appreciates and doesnt depreciate thats a big plus
