The Edifier brands have a couple of 2.1 setups. One thing that is good about this brand is that they use bigger sized drivers for the sub. This is a good thing which helps in getting cleaner sound with the same input power.

If you need all of it (Player+Front speakers+Sub+Amp), you need to go even further. 15k would be a realistic guess. If I were you, I would do the whole thing in stages to ease the pocket.
Ie, first get the player plus speakers and then add sub+amp later.

IMHO, 5K is too less for a system that can make you go WOW
Since some games do have 5.1, it would make sense to go for 5.1 given that you are into games.

Whats the difference between DX and D2X cards for stereo use?
I believe they have different DACs. Does it really make any difference?
