As tommy_vercetti said, the LAN cable from your modem should go into the WAN port for your router. Also I am not sure if Airtel uses dail up, if yes then you need to setup the PPPoE settings in your router. You have have to secure your router using WPA.

I am using Buffalo WCR-G54 since last 8-9 months, Its a crap and there is no proper support. If you want to download over wifi then don't just go for it. The connection breaks, and yes the biggest problem, At times it does not acquire IP from my ISP, I have to plug in my lan and browse the net...
