Why are we paying FULL amount for shitty internet services viz. mobile data and bb net?

Is there anything which can be done in this regard?

Context: I've been complaining about Airtel network issues in my area for over a year (now 1-2 years). I was made to run from pillar to pillar. They have never fixed the issues for good. They took over a year to TEMPORARILY resolve the complaint but the issues were back by the following week. Complained again and they took weeks to fix and then issues were back once again. This has been going on for ages now. To Airtel it seems that being able to use freaking WhatsApp on their "4G" is apparently good enough.
Finally fed up, I decided to change my network to VI and I did a recharge earlier today. The network was fast in the morning. Then since then it's been down and dead and back again. Everything is on loop. Customer care doesn't help.

So why exactly do we have to pay full amount of money for services which they cannot even properly provide or maintain? This is absurd. 4G in India is also said to be one of the slowest in the world. And the companies are satisfied if we can use WhatsApp! Unbelievable!

we also paying like 600 bucks for 3 months worth of unlimited 4G, it is what it is. get fibre internet if your work depends on internet

Irrelevant answer. Not that I didn't think about it. You also cannot carry your fiber wherever you go. The problem is about fixing a problem. Not buying another product to overcome that problem. That's like saying "oh heavy traffic on the roads hold on, let me just get my private chopper!" That doesn't solve the problem.
Try filing a complaint with TRAI and Consumer forum.
I've been writing to TRAI on social media. Also I don't know just how effective our consumer court is.

Please check below link to file a complaint with TRAI and as for Consumer Court it takes time(months) for final verdict to come but you get compensated way more than the loss incurred. If you hire a lawyer, he can make a strong case for you claiming compensation for mental harrassment, business loss due to frequent disconnections and many other things. Some lawyers take fees on percentage basis from whatever you are compensated.

Check this website for TRAI procedure -

Cannot agree more. That's the reason even Neighboring countries have good 4G speed. (https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/t...ownload-speed-report-says/article32982144.ece)

Personally, I am with Jio since 4.5 yrs. Idea disappointed me a lot with 4G speeds but it hasn't done much, From what I see what Vi offers at the moment is value for money and speeds are decent hitting 10-12 mbps.

I wished to Get Rid of Jio but the call quality on Jio and Speeds have Improved over last 3-4 months, Not sure how. Have you tried Jio?

Also, let me know if you use Prepaid or Postpaid?

Corporates don't feel a threat of consumer, or consumer court. That's the real answer. And everyone is too busy to spend time and energy to fight these companies. And companies know exactly that so they try to exploit every consumer by all means. Completely knowing that all customers won't unite and make a hell for that or any corporate.

And now a days or may be always these corporates only run the proxy gov which in turn run all law enforcement or judiciary.

If people were aware enough and United enough angrez wouldn't have ruled for 200 years and so on... They would have been wiped out in few months or years only.

It takes decades or years for legal cases to come to conclusions. It's tough fight.

I feel like breaking windows and property of several corporates for clearly cheating but again I will be booked by law. Sad state of affairs.

Only politicians and gundas can racksack such properties without fear of law.

Kare to kare kya... Bole to bole kya...

Log to andh bhakt banke bhaidhe he aaj kal to. People themselves aren't aware they are fooled or cheated in lot of ways.

If you hire a lawyer
I considered it and was told that it will take a very long time like REALLY long and with covid situation it may never see the light of day.
Also if I register a case against the operator where will the case be heard? My location or the HQ area of the company? I think some companies have "all legal case to be decided at <insert city location>".
Asking because travelling is gonna be such a headache.

Jio was good. Was! Now it's crap. Airtel is good but only if you are lucky to live near the tower. We have a Jio tower nearby and it doesn't help the network. Dunno if it's dead or dormant.
I'm on prepaid.
I've used BSNL, Airtel, Vi. Jio is the only one which I haven't used and won't use coz of the network issues. Their fiber is, from my temporary use, good. BSNL is good for wide coverage of network. Works even in remote areas in the hills. But very slow 4G. I currently have Airtel and Vi.
Everytime I threaten Airtel people that I will write to the regional in charge (Shillong) they assure me that they will fix it. I've given them way too many chances now. Hilarious when I think back about it.

All mobile networks are the same - horible! Unfortunately they won't do anything about it even if you whine as it is an oligopoly and both Vi and Airtel are almost bankrupt.

If you really want to put them to knees ans i am talking seriously here.
Go to
This is govt of Indias public grievance portal.
Make an account and lodge complaint, select Department of Telecommunications | Ministry of Communication | Government of India.
While lodging the complaint, if possible do share with the various service requests aka complaint numbers.
The compliant will be forwarded by the official govt of india channels and the have to work over it no matter what.
This will set the ball rolling for good believe me.

What is the signal strength you get on your phone? Even I get pretty bad internet speeds at home. So bad that I decided to shift back to one number instead of continuing to pay for shit speeds. In my case, both Airtel and Jio had bad speeds with Jio being worst. Not too long ago, I used to get very nice speeds, but even then it was sporadic due to bad signal strength. In fact, just a few weeks bad, I tried an experiment and found that I got better speeds on 3g than 4g in my house on Airtel and that's just because of bad signal strength. I really can't fault them though as speeds are good enough outside my house and terrific all around my area. Due to hills, bad signal strength is what we have to just live with here and thankfully broadband speeds are acceptable and they do the job for me when I am home.

2-3 bars on Airtel.

This was Vi yesterday (it's okay right now):

I forgot to add one more image lol. 199 is their customer care number. I took the screenshot yesterday. At this point I'm no longer mad about it. :hilarious:

Since you have tried almost everything try this.. people have given good feedback as the company's team is responsive and helped them resolve network issues.
Please write detailed mail to randeep.sekhon@airtel.com explaining your problem which bands are not coming etc and speed issues. YOUR PROBLEM WILL BE RECTIFIED WITHIN 24-48 HRS . GAURENTEED. I am telling from my personal experience and many over internet.

Progress is followed from his desk with regional network team. And no if buts, only solution . Just mentioned all airtel nos. You use in your home in subject line...also mail should be thorough and we'll drafted and not like two liner cribbing about problem too much...

Do update when you get resolution. In my case they installed new sector on site facing my home to boost capacity and coverage withing 48 hrs. And same person called me to check of there was improvment . I got full bar of band 40 from 1 bar
Got it from another site.

Thanks. I googled his name and he's the CTO at Airtel. CTO now handling customer service issues huh. Wow. :O

Try it.. nothing to lose.
If it is still working and your issue gets resolved that would mean there is someone at Airtel among the lazy bums to look into consumer interests.

You get what you pay for.
And when I mean you it is not you specific but You = population of India.
Average Revenue per user (ARPU) is among the LOWEST in the world.

Ergo = telecom service providers are not incentivized to invest more and provide you with more.

Do you think if majority of our population has same expectation as you - the TSP companies would be sitting idle and not utilize it as a competitive edge to get more subscribers?

Do you live in a high density area? Personally I have never had a problem with either Airtel or Voda. I did see that Jio speeds went to under 1mbps in my area when they opened up their network but I think nowadays even it must be fine. High density areas should be served by broadband and maybe 5g though I'm not sure how long it will take
