I have an old gaming headphone which I want to revive due to lockdown stopping all online delivery. One of the ear cups don't produce sound anymore. How should I diagnose the exact area of the problem? And can it be repaired? The headphone has a mic.
Headset is Corsair V1300.

1) Check the headphone wire. If it has any breakage that may be causing this issue. You can try bending here and there and check if you are getting any sound. This is the most common cause
2) Connection inside the headphone unit may have got broken. This can checking by opening the unit
3) Alos, post opening the unit, connect a battery to the wires and if the diaphragm moves, then there is no issue with speaker.

I can confirm the sl. 1 last time I checked.
What did you mean by "connect a battery"?

Just checked again. Right ear cup doesn't work. Left has the mic attached. There's also something wrong with the mic. Windows voice recorder doesn't detect anything, discord voice check also doesn't detect the mic properly but my friends said they can hear me loud and clear. Not sure if they are trolling. There's something wrong with the "control" area on the headphone which has the audio volume and mic on/off button. It also has distortion/noise which sounds like bzz bzz.. Forgot to mention earlier. Headphone model is Corsair V1300. https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Gaming-Headsets/VENGEANCE®-1300-Analog-Gaming-Headset/p/CA-9011111-WW
Thought of asking him but didn't think he would do "repairs" , just throw them out and buy new. :p

I have repaired my earphones/headphones in past,
but they don't work like before after that, as sound quality depreciated.
but my earphones/headphones were simple without a mic, your Headphones seems complex.

Come on buddy!! I don't throw away headphones like that!!
Regarding the issue, as usual, I'm not sure. Actually I am not familiar with gaming headphones at all.
One ear not working is usually the cable connection issue. Open up the non functioning earcup and check for any loose wire, if there is any, remove the old solder blob like thing and resolder.
My soldering skill is very poor, but successfully repaired a DT 770 years ago (of course with step by step guide youtube video)
But I never repaired a broken wire at the jack.
There are far more skilled people here for this kind of project.

If you wanna test the speaker.. just connect the positive n negative to the speaker wire.. if the diaphragm moves, then no issues with speaker

This way one can identify the positive connection of speaker too. If the diaphragm moves up then the connection is fine, if moves down then reverse the polarity

One ear is fine actually as long as I can fix the mic. I need the mic for online gaming session. IEM doesn't work in PC since it's mic and sound input are combined.
@quaratineinthesejeans the screws are placed in very awkward location and I couldn't reach them. I think they use "bent drivers." Also any idea if splitter will work without any issue? From a single 3.5mm jack to two: mic and headset jacks?

Even if it doesn't work, you can use the splitter later ( personally have no experience with splitters or gaming headphones)
An OT question to you and all the gamers:
What do you look for in good gaming headphones, beside the microphone? Soundstage and imaging?

What do you aim to achieve with the splitter? Does your motherboard have an all-in-one jack or separate headphone and mic jacks at the back.
Separate ports. I've never used a splitter so asking.

Sound quality, mic and how comfortable it is. But I wouldn't buy a "gaming headphone" in the current market. Way too expensive. I paid only 2500rs for that Corsair. A headphone of similar quality will easily cost 6-7k nowadays. Better to get a comfortable headset and mic separately.
Also many so-called gaming headphones now are just rebrand of cheap Chinese just like speakers and mouse and many other products out there.

So how are you using your current headset if the motherboard has separate ports on the back and your headphone has a single wire?
If I want to communicate with friends I run discord on my laptop and use the earphone there which gives me access to both audio and mic. If solo then I use it directly on my desktop without using the mic. I just switch it around which is annoying.
Btw guys I looked up at dedicated cheap mics on Amazon. Has anyone here used Maono mics? 390rs for this https://www.amazon.in/dp/B07JF9B592..._dl_CTAXMQS0ZGTYVP2W7B0M?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I am not a gamer but it's all about soundstage and imaging only.
some are fond of RGB lighting as well, not to forget the wireless connectivity if possible with minimum latency.

Any basic mic will serve the purpose, dedicated is a better option.
A couple of times I even used calibration mic ( that comes with 5.1 speakers and Home theater setups) for calling without any issues.

I got the splitter. There is noise. Also the discord voice mic works despite discord not being able to detect my mic and I'm able to hear myself but the recipient cannot hear my voice. It also echoes whenever I use the splitter.
I'm unable to figure out these problems. If any discord pros could help me out it will be awesome.

The problems:
1. There is noise.
2. It echoes.
3. Discord doesn't detect my mic but I'm able to test the voice myself and it somewhat works (except for issues mentioned in sl.1 and 2 above)
4. Recipient can't hear my voice at all so its a proof that my mic actually doesn't work despite discord not mentioning this.
I currently don't have the budget to get a dedicated headphone or mic so I would like to get these issues resolved if possible. Is there anything in my sound settings (discord and windows) which I need to change? Thanks a lot in advance.
I will need to return this splitter if I can't find a solution.
