There are definitely issues with it's implementation but in this specific case, the CA they consulted erred on the side of unnecessary caution that took away a useful service. The rules with regards to second hand sales are clear and unless HFV had a platform fee, they had zero GST implications.

The CA probably tried to save them from unnecessary harassment that might come and that would increase the workload for him to send replies and make the fools in the IT dept understand the intricacies of a forum marketplace and why would someone do it for free.
I was reading about presumptive taxation for my own use and came across a case where the officers made the guy go to court and the courts then had to clarify such a simple law for them. The guy won the case eventually, thanks to the courts, but it was completely unnecessary waste of both the guy and the court's time.

Well, wouldn't the CA want more work so he can bill more hours?

Though if OLX sellers aren't being harassed and OLX is paying GST only on the crap ads they provide which have nothing to do between two sellers on the platform, this was kind of obvious.

More hours for the CA means more expenditure for the platform administration.
So i presume the easier and cautious route has been taken.
 
HFV is back with their classified section now but with paid subscription for selling. So now anyone can become a member by paying the nominal subscription fee but hope it does not turn out to be another OLX or will it be?

I presume they would have some other rules also in place to avoid scamsters.

In short, they saw that they were providing a service that was attracting more people than their own "business" so they decided to milk it and that's how they are doing it now. 500/- for 3 months, 1000/- for 1 year. I assume their logic being that putting a price on admission ensures only genuine people trade on it. From what I've noticed, many have "subscribed" to it and have put up their For Sale thread. But in the long run, such move is only going to stifle the HiFi adoption by a larger number of people and keep such a community as niche one in India, not bettering the cause of making "audiophilia" mainstream.
