Guys did any of you submit your phone while ordering for battery? I visited 2 service centers, but both of them asked to submit my phone if they have to order battery.
I asked why and they said it's procedure, and they themselves have no idea why.
I didn't order though, as they said battery is not available, so they cannot say when it will arrive or if it will arrive.
Hello
No did not submit the phone but paid the cost upfront for the battery.

I left my phone with them and they kept it for 2 days I guess . They said u coud pre order battery by paying an advance and they will call me back to submit my phone when it arrives . I just reset my phone and chose to leave it with them .

the battery was sourced after i confirmed the order but did not have to submit phone before. It was a one day job, handed over the phone at 12 noon and got it at 4.30 in the evening

They asked to pay the amount in full for the battery to make an order, but didnt insist to submit the phone.
They called me once they received the battery and i submitted the phone. Changed it in 2 days.

If they have the battery in stock, they will inform the same and you can change the battery right away.
Maximum 2 days for battery change.

Sadly for me those guys want me to submit the phone to order.. Even i said I'll pay complete amount upfront for battery.. But still didn't accept to keep the phone with me, very suspicious..
Anyhow battery is not available even with company it seems.. Not sure if it's a stock issue or samsung discontinued completely.. It's just a 3 year old phone.

Thanks all for the helpful replies.

May i know what samsung mobile model you are using?

Did anyone ask the service centre for the old battery which was replaced? A while back, i replaced the battery on a S7 but it felt like the exact same as before in terms of battery backup and I was wondering if the service centre people played me.
How does one verify that a battery is indeed new other than the increase in battery backup?

I did not get the old battery back for my s9 . Battery backup is a bit better but I changed the battery due to overheating not for stand by time or SOT reduction .

Revived the old battery back on request

Yes they returned the old battery when i asked.

I actually didn't change the battery but I change the mobile itself because I don't know why but it keeps hanging again and again without any reasons.

What you want to say is how to tell the difference between genuine or generic batteries. Ask them. They will tell you because the price will be more for genuine.

The way to tell the difference is by weight. The genuine one will be heavier by a few more grams. With my LG V20 the difference was just 5gm between genuine vs. generic batteries.

With user replaceable batteries this is easy to check. I've noticed no seller on amazon has genuine phone batteries. They are all invariably generic and cost half the price of genuine. As a result they only last half as long as genuine. The only source for genuine batteries is the authorised service centre. Depending on the company they may pick up or you have to go there in person.

With non-user replaceable batteries the way to check is the same. Weigh the phone before you hand it in and check its weight after. You need a reasonably accurate scale for this, one that can distinguish per gram.

If the phone is lighter then you got a generic battery. Within a gram or two means its genuine.

The battery is still manufactured by Samsung. Go to some other service center
Tried 4 service centers in my city in Jan-Feb and 1 other in another city last week... The problem is, it shows battery out of stock for them in their internal samsung website where they order parts... They told me to check after a month...Either it is out of stock completely or temporarily.

If its out of stock is there no way for them to order some more ? If you have the direct number of the service centre, ask them. When i got spare batteries for my LG V20, i contacted them first, they said it would take a few weeks and then i got an update when it arrived.
