hello,

could someone pls suggest any good centre in mumbai (pref. in or around thane/borivali) that could unlock my account-locked ipad?

thanks.

Is this even possible on the newer ipads/phones/macs? By newer I mean anything from the last 5 odd years.
I would be really curious to know how they go about doing it.

They do it on Apple server (How?, I don't know). They just need serial number / imei of the device.

After that, they ask you to restore your iPhone/iPad through iTunes.

I think this is for carrier or network lock devices, not for icloud locked devices.

AFAIK there's no way to unlock icloud locked devices, I stand to be corrected.

There are services that offer to unlock icloud locked, some even support locked/stolen. However the availability of services vary with device/network/time.

Preety sure there's no third party option to unlock and iCloud locked device. Only carrier lock can be unlocked afaik.

I have seen some SIM unlock service providers who remotely are able to unlock/bypass icloud locked devices. Dont have any personal experience of such a service but many seem to provide it..

Back in the day, I had a gevey sim unlocked iPhone 4 which I later got factory unlocked by paying a small sum($20-25 maybe) to some 'then reliable' agent. After few days I was asked to connect to itunes and restore. That was it but they did ask me to be sure before giving for unlock that it was not stolen or reported by carrier else the process won't go ahead and no refund will be provided. I guess I used some service to verify if that was not the case and after that I proceeded for unlock. Didn't know that icloud locked ones can also be bypassed!

I had ordered an iPhone from e-Bay USA and it turned out to be iCloud locked.
It was back in iPhone 6 or 6S days when import duty was reasonable. I had to use such a service to remove iCloud.

An iCloud locked phone is essentially a stolen phone.

the only way to remove the lock (which is effectively a lock done by the user whose phone/ipad was stolen ) is via access to apple authentication servers.
The only entitled users for these servers would be authorised service center personnel.

It’s possible that some service center personnel may be doing this as a side hustle - although its a fairly risky game considering any detection of such fraud would lead to their service termination and employment blacklisting , even a criminal case maybe

PM me with details. Will help you out.

Not necessarily. Carrier auctioned devices are legit devices and clean. Carrier offload them at private auction to phone wholesalers every year after customer swap for new iPhone.

Carrier auctioned devices will surely not be iCloud locked.
the only scenario under which a device is under iCloud lock is when a device was taken as-is from user (i.e. flicked) .. or user locked it explicitly from settings remotely.. (after device getting flicked)

No carrier will collect a device in a legit fashion from a user without getting him/her to sign out and reset..

Also, for legit locked scenarios , AASPs will unlock device with a nominal fee after you show a proof of valid purchase.

My BILs old MBA had got locked accidentally (Nephew took a hand-me-down iPhone which was on same account and managed to security lock the Mac from the security panel.. ) It was unlocked via an authentication server unlock by AASP after validating ID and proof of purchase.

saar. lets just not get into it. it is gray area. Since the iPhone 6, I have dealt with carriers' auctions. Due to clients mistakes, carriers end up with iCloud-locked devices when they trade in an iPhone. And later on carriers and cell phone insurers sell their excess inventory through third-party processing companies like Ecoatm etc. Wholesalers buy these phones for parts.
