Android Truecaller alternative?

When you block spammers outright for a long time, they stop calling you. But once they know, you are not blocking them anymore then they start back again at you in full force.

i hadnt been blocking them, as i hadnt set TC as the default dialer & sms app (as TC doesnt have call-recording feature that my phone's native app has), which is reqd for blocking to work. i'd just ignore the calls or atmost disconnect without picking them up after seeing the ID. some days back when i had uninstalled TC (before the present instance), i received one such call from an unknown number with no identifier, & in half-mind i picked it up thinking that it could also be a call of some importance may be, but it was a scammer, and despite me not wanting to, i regrettably ended up having a bitter verbal spat with the rascal upon which he disconnected. now in hindsight, IIRC, it is since THEN that i havent been receiving these fraudulent calls. a couple of times the usual loan calls may be, but not from these dregs. and now after uninstalling TC once again 3-4 days back, not even the loan & finance calls as far as i can tell. might be just coincidence as well. will be observing for a few more days..

No, it's not necessary to set TC as default dialer to block. It can still block calls of top spammers. TC dialer is a bonus feature.

ok. to me it showed the prompt that i needed to set it as default for blocking to work, may be for the blocking-features i had wanted.

Anyway, this is what you are getting into.

And if that is not enough, they are into tax fraud as well.

It wouldn't be surprisingly if they actually facilitate spamming by selling the user database in the first place. Quite a vicious circle.

what i am suspecting is something similar -- that, all these spam & scam calls i 'had' (hope it stays that way) been getting, could it be that atleast some of them were TC's own 'automated' or 'promoted' spam, just to give the user the false impression of how well the app is working in IDing/blocking the pestilence?! because its yet another consecutive day in a row with me neither having TC now or any other blocker on my phone, and i haven't received any such calls (would be observing for some more time)! else, it was daily esp. during set-time of morning to noon that i was getting such calls, the only 'respite' being when am abroad & not in the country when i wouldn't be subject to this!

I am also observing a similar trend wrt spam calls, especially since last month. I thought my number must have leaked or sold but after reading your post, I have some suspicion that somewhere TC might be involved in this mess.
I get a lot of calls from unknown numbers, mostly useful. So it kind off makes it hard to dispose off TC.

I have never ever installed Tc ever...
Have got all my numbers registered with DND, full block but i am still getting spam calls.. Property related haven't stopped ever but last year I applied for sbi simply click card and those a**holes leaked my numbers to every cc agent and i get like 2 to 3 calls daily for this or that cc..

Hum bhi dhheeth ( stubborn) hain roz numbers ko DND Mein report karte and or roz naye numbers se call aate hain and the circle of spam goes on....

Pretty disappointing really... Especially irritating when you are at work..

Lodged many complaints with jio as all my nos are on jio but they say they can't do nothing..

I was gonna say this very thing...if you get a credit card from SBI you get bombarded with spammers and scammers. :p Not necessarily TC is leaking your phone number. Everyone is doing that.

Actually the third parties that sbi has given contracts to for facilitating the documentations etc are doing this

DnD is useless, and does nothing.

Else one stops picking numbers not in contacts, TC is the only way around this. I think it is superb. My Spam is down 100%.

For that I would suggest try google phone
aka dialer application, it does everything that Tc does, flashes spam call sign in red as soon as a spam caller calls...

I don't use it as it breaks the over all experience of theme and all on my dual screen g8x thinq [emoji12][emoji12] otherwise it works well as it is google has already collected everything about you so no harm giving it permission to access contacts...

yeah eventually i feel myself too might have to return to TC or some alternative to it. just observing for few days/weeks more. if i start getting rubbish calls again, then definitely yes. just weighing my options & contemplating if should dip my head back in...so, depends.

when i wasnt so reliant on TC or IDing/blocking earlier, i'd often practise a different form of stubbornness against such calls (based on experience with unknown no.s) -- i simply wouldnt pickup any calls from unknown no.s unless they called twice-thrice or multiple times within a span of a few hours. if they did, i'd understand that it must be either from an acquaintance whose no. i dont have, or some kind of important call. if not, the default assumption would apply, ie, definitely must be some kind of irksome 'peacebreaker' again! a simple working-man's-life-siddhaant at work -- "jisko zaroorat hogi wo dobaara-tibaara call karega hi!" else, BTF(ilter)O! in that way, i'd act as my own DND service! :grimacing:

It's going to backfire.

Only innocent people will be exposed as they have to give their aadhar, pan, zodiac sign to get a SIM card. Scammers have thousands of SIM cards and they don't link anything.

Yeah, what are you going to do if you aadhar info is leaked, and someone uses a number that flashes your name to scam people? This might become a nightmare. Elon's Twitter blue tickmark comes to mind.

Oops: removed the screenshot because it was showing the number.
Tldr: screenshot of TC was showing caller name as "Angry".

See this? TC is a joke now. Hope that new TRAI rule does away with such spammers.

Users of TC give those names. You'll find all kinds of slur.
