Anyone using Homeassistant as an IoT platform?

Hi, I would like to know if you guys are using Homeassistant as IoT platform and what are to compatible devices currently available in the Indian market? Is there a special website that keeps track of such devices? If not Home assistant, what other alternative would you suggest?

The best place to start is to do your own research, check out Youtube channels and videos related to HomeAssistant, Finalize the technology you want to use for your IoT devices e.g., Zigbee, Z wave, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc., then go about finding those devices in India. Currently, I believe the best option of having HA integration with switches is Sonoff Mini's, but I believe Wipro just launch their Shelly competitive product in India, I don't know whether it is compatible with HA or not but if it's not, It will soon be as there are other Wipro products are compatible with HA, but the Wipro items are a bit on the costlier side.

I exclusively used Sonoff Mini R3 in my home for Light control, I don't have any other IoT devices, other than Google Home speakers. Sonoff is largely available on Amazon, but Sonoff has its own website for India (Sonoff.in) where you can get their products, you can contact them for a quote if you buying in bulk, and they usually give good discounts online pricing.

thanks for the input, will try that. Is there any way to use google home or alexa capabilities that are built into most IoT devices like syska smart plugs to integrate with HA?

The short answer is No. you can control those devices with their own apps and Google Assistant but not with HA. The long answer, it depends on which products or systems have integrations with HA, if they do then it might work but again the functionality might be limited.

yeah, I was thinking if maybe somehow Google's service can act as an intermediate to plug and transmit data between HA and my device, then technically I can indirectly control my device from HA. For example, if there was a plugin for alexa in HA that would interpret my command and pass it to the plug, then I can control my plug from HA where alexa acts as an intermediate.

This become complicated where you need a middle like pi with home assist
Simple snoff rchpro with HomeKit firmware loaded direct connects via WiFi to iPhone home without a man in middle pi
This is how I use mine
I like the simple no geek solution to home control

I don't think that will work. plus it totally negates the use of HA.
yeah, I mean since HA works like a centralised system where a lot of IOT products from different vendors work under one platform, for me that is the biggest advantage of using HA. I don't want to have 10 different apps for 10 different devices and should have the flexibility of customizing and fetching information the way I like. I hope in future, we have more seamless integrations between different kinds of hardwares.

Plenty of devices on the India market that support HA.
I have been using domoticz since 2014 or 15 which i subsequently migrated to HA a few years ago.
While I havent updated the public codebase (or the README) in a long time , this may give you enough starter ideas:

do you have a list of devices available in indian market? or most common ones?
