Other How are Mediatek SoCs?

I've had a very heavy bias towards Snapdragon SoCs since forever and never owned anything with a Mediatek SoC before.
It wasn't like this 3-4 years ago but these days at least half the devices in the market are powered by Mediatek now.

How are they in comparison to most Snapdragons? How reliable, efficient and powerful are they compared to Snapdragon SoCs?

Mediatek used to trash before. They only used to serve the budget market. Their SOCs were not power efficient and has very mediocre performance. But they were cheap and lot of budget phones would use them to save costs. But now they have completely revamped their company per se and have options for budget mid tier and sudo flagship devices as well. The Dimensity series of chips are quite decent and has enough performance/efficient ratio to give a good healthy competition to mid upper Snapdragon SOCs. Flagship is still Snapdragon and unconquered.

I'm on the same boat as OP, considering mediatek for family phones or for basic needs, people using mediatek from 10k to 20k can you comment on the performance and battery life and phone staying cool if possible

The only Mediatek I've ever owned was a Xperia C, and over time the device just went bad in terms of overheat and performance. Never used a mediatek post that.
However, I have heard good things from people using Mediatek in the last couple of years
