Android Truecaller alternative?

I have reported TRAI itself as a spammer. Stupid messages to not to give any land for mobile tower in the middle of the night. WTH?

TRAI itself is a big wannabe spammer like LIC. I don't think there's bigger spammer than LIC in India.

New version of TC doesn't even start unless we give it all the permissions in the world. Spyware app. I gave it permissions in old version and removed them and updated it today and it won't start. Kept bugging me for every permission it could think of. Got fed up and uninstalled it.

Really, it is a very instrusive app, and keeps becoming more intrusive. Now, it has a feature where businesses can send you messages, and there seems to be no opting out of it

Also, nowadays, whenever I receive an SMS from bank regarding some transaction, TrueCaller shows a transaction message, which is really annoying. Sometimes, I receive car service message from my dealer and it contains price of servicing and TrueCaller shows it as amount paid, and it makes me anxious for a while.

If there is a better alternative, I will switch

Never install truecaller. you are not compromising your own data but facilitating the selling of others' numbers too.

i find that very irritating. even if one of my contacts is stupid enough to install truecaller, my number suddenly becomes public. it is criminal on that contact's part to do that.

You'll have to restrict SMS permission to Truecaller

You'll have to restrict SMS permission to Truecaller
The SMS can still be read from the notification shown when you receive it. Basically any app can read any notification without special permission. This is how for eg., food delivery apps fill in card OTP when ordering.

Apps need special permission to read notifications. Special permissions like notification access, draw over other apps etc are found only in system settings. Apps who get OTP automatically are using a dedicated API on android which was created just for this purpose. In this case, system reads the OTP on app's behalf. Apps can't read SMS or notifications without a dedicated permission.

Doesn't work. I have already blocked SMS permission and yet I get business messages from TC.
Nope. I don't get. My Truecaller never reads my SMS, doesn't show any notification related to SMS. You'll have to double check the settings with mine.

Yup. Already have No permissions for SMS. What @lockhrt999 said in the post below yours makes more sense. TC bypassing this SMS thing and sending messages directly to end customers, like WhatsApp.
What hurts more is that I am a paid user for TC and yet I get such messages where I haven't yet subscribed to such type in the first place. Kind off defeats the whole purpose of the "purchase" in the first place.

You are probably getting the business chat. To disable the annoying notifications from it, you can go to App Info of TC (press and hold on TC icon) > app info > notifications > disable the 'all chat notifications'. That should do the trick.

I'm also a paid user of this necessary evil. :(

they are rogues. they show zero income in India

I am forced to use Truecaller to automatically block top spammers and marketing calls. Google Dialer is also effective, but then I won't be able to use Samsung's auto call recording feature.
