Bluetooth speaker recommendation, budget under 10k

My brother saw JBL Flip 5 for 7k, pretty much one of its cheapest rate. He’s looking for a Bluetooth speaker which is portable, has good amount of battery life with good sound quality.

Any other options he can go for? Personally his roommate used JBL Flip 4 and was pretty impressed by its bass and clarity. What else can be found in this price range, at max 10k?

I have Soundcore Motion plus. It's pretty good, better than my last JBL Flip 2. I was able to get it for 5k in a sale. See if you can get it for around 6-7k. It's worth it even at that price range.

I'd suggest you to go for Tribit MaxSound Plus 24W speakers. It's a pretty solid performer in terms of sound it produces considering the size. Battery Life is good.

Keep a look out for either of these when they come back into stock. The JBL's tend to be overpriced for what they are because competition is less in the 5-10k segment. Which seems riskier for sellers than the under 5k segment

This is the version we get in India of the Soundcore Motion Boom

The bass on the plus will be less than the select pro but the trebles will be clearer.

The plus dates back to 2019, and the select pro is more recent. This does not mean sound is 'better' its different as the bass drivers are bigger

The ideal speaker to get is the Earfun Uboom L but that is only available as an import as they did not release it in India. So the delivery& import duty adds an extra 4k to what it is really worth

I think Amazon Germany delivers to India but it's €127 odd with the extra charges. I got it from iBhejo for around Rs.12k last July

Did you know Ikea made BT speakers?

This one is the Gen 1 'Enenby 20' because it's a 20x20cm square from 2018. There is a Gen 2 that has TWS but does not seem in stock with Ikea in India. Maybe ask

Two colour choices

The interesting thing is it has a replaceable battery available separately. I have never seen a BT speaker with a replaceable battery. How amazing is that :woot:

It's mains only otherwise but has the option to be portable. Can have as many batteries as you like and the speaker does not get thrown away because the battery died and you can't find anyone to change it.

Sound-wise Oluv seems to like it. It's got bass & treble controls. Hackable too if you want which means it's well made.

It's bigger and I think that's what improves the sound. Perhaps less portable so it needs fewer tricks than smaller speakers. This will sound larger than the Maxsound plus

Hay, I actually didn't know that Ikea made speakers lol.

My brother has checked out these two speakers -
Tribit stormbox - https://www.amazon.in/Tribit-Portable-Bluetooth-Enhanced-Wireless/dp/B0784ZQFHZ/
Tribit Stormbox Pro - https://www.amazon.in/Tribit-Bluetooth-Radiators-Exceptional-Waterproof/dp/B08MZZTH1N/

The Pro model costs 8k, but has an actual physical sub-woofer. It also has a handle and appears to have more volume. For 8k my brother things he'll go for this. He's still torn cuz of brand loyality lol. Every one who's used JBL in his circle has strongly recommended it.

Those are omnis, so lower bass will be less with them. If you want that kind of speaker then fine. More volume because they boost the upper bass but the lower bass will be missing. Kinda like the flip in any case.

The ones I recommend are to be heard on axis and will sound better than omnis.

Amazed that the Flip5 has more bass and sounds fuller than this storm box Pro even when it's measured on axis. Put on headphones and hear the difference. Check his full review for that speaker if you want. People said something was wrong with his unit. So he got a second one. nah, no difference.

Man is the bass is weak with these 360 speakers

If all your brother likes to listen to is LOUD vocals then this will be fine. The only good thing i can find with this speaker is its BT latency is very low under 50ms so there will be no lag with video.

The difference is quite staggering I must say. I think I"ll tell him to go stretch his budget a little and go for Flip 6 or Flip 5.

I have used JBL Go, flip, party box and one more jbl I can't remember. All of them died quickly, the batteries stopped getting charged. Can't recommended you jbl but this one :

It maybe small but it will work for long.

Here is another review and it seems outdoors the bass comes across more. Indoors is not great though.

The Flip will sound better at lower volumes

The shitty thing about the Flip6 is the specs. They are cost-cutting from earlier versions and charging more.

How about forgetting this 360 speaker crap and considering an on-axis one if you're going to be upping your budget??

Yeah you can't put it in the centre of the room but the sound will be tighter and sound better

What volume does he like to listen at ? under 50% some speakers do better. And there are many that only sound good at 60-80%

The speaker will be used mainly indoors, with occasional outdoor beach / outside trips. Not sure about the volume, but my brother prefers his sound on the higher end.

Also, turns out Flip 5 can sound different depending on the serial number. CC, TL and GG. One video mentioned TL as the most balanced of the bunch. Does Flip 5 sound better?

Oh, the experience of my brother's circle has been the opposite, their devices are more than 3 years old and still going strong.

Get a Bose anyway.

The Tribit Micro 2 is its direct competitor at half the price

So what is the difference?

The Bose sounds more full under 50% and the Tribit does better above 50%

He's testing the Gen 1 of the Tribit there.

This is with Gen 2

Thing with BT speakers is durability/life. My experience has been so bad with JBl I've vowed never to buy any BT speaker. Sorry for derailing the thread op. Newer JBLs are even worse.

I did not recommend any JBL this is the Tribit Micro 2 which I think I would like to try out :)

Which would you prefer out of these two?

Looks like the earfun boom L arrived in India a few months ago. At under 6k it's a really good deal. Keep in mind the stock fw needs to be downgraded and flashed via a PC to get Oluv's tuning.
