Pixel 7a launching on May 11th

Since 6 was not launched in India, it is basically a US refurbished unit. I purchased a Pixel 3 that way. eSIM is disabled, physical SIM is unlocked for all carriers and the bootloader is permanently locked. Although it may vary, I think most of the cheap refurb units are basically the carrier unlocked ones, rather than the ones sold unlocked.
I bought a refurb 3, it turned out to be a Japanese unit with some Japan specific nfc hardware and software.
There was no esim support, but was unlocked and supported all Sims. Didn't check bootloader as stock rom was fine

I also had a 4a that i had bought unlocked from USA retail (best buy) and it supported esim.

Like the fact that the release on Flipkart is timed with the announcement during Google I/O. Probably the fastest launch in India though could have been 18 minutes early.

$449 is like 40k and the price leak was ₹39,999/- with offers. so 45k is what I think will be the real price :/

Flipkart page is up ₹ 43999 and 4000 off on HDFC card

The US reviews are going gaga over the Pixel 7a at $500 because they otherwise have rubbish options in that range. But even then, all the reviews are ignoring the fact that the 7 was being sold for $450 directly until the 7a launch and has a much bigger sensor, better build and better wireless charging.

The 7a will probably make sense when it is available for 30k with offers as it still has the flaky under-screen FP sensor and will probably keep having wireless, adapter, software issues since Google never bothers fixing them. Also, only 3 Android version updates, when your company maintains the OS is simply a joke.

but the increased weight spoiled my main criterion to get it.
This!!! Couldn't fathom how a plastic build like 6a, 7A weighs more than a glass/metal build in 6, 7. Plus it does not have a huge battery which could have justified the weight. It is going to be painful should one dare to use 5G on such tiny battery. Seems like a "twice a day" charge device if you are a moderate user unless Google has done some miracle with the battery optimisation.

World's largest marketing, analytics, and advertising company, and yet they fail to capture the market like Samsung or Apple.
Making phones is not their forte!!! They are all about data and have aplenty to play around, having an almost monopoly in the Android world.

Lol. Hardware was never its primary focus unlike Samsung and Apple. Pixel sales will not constitute more than 5-6% of its entire revenue. Why do you even want it to capture the phone market ?
But a tablet, foldable and a phone in one event. Plus with their AI Tensor chip. Who knows what the future holds ?

Google as a company is losing it. Sundar Pichai is a Steve Blamber of Google. It hasn't launched one good successful product in last 5 or so years. Most of its products are failing and sent to the graveyard. Google's name in the developer world is taken with a salt because of its habit of killing its own products willy nilly. Even Meta is more respected than Google.

There are problems with the Google search. Sometimes it ignores the search terms and forces irrelevant results. It hasn't evolved in years. Android hasn't received any real non-niche features in many years either either. Themes aren't features. It has rather gotten ugly and inconsistent. In the Google I/O, the most used word isn't pixel or search but it's 'AI'. No idea what they are doing in the name of AI but Google Assistant has become worse over the years.

I think Google engineers daily drive iPhones but have to work on pixels only because their boss is forcing them to. Pixel and nexus have had the worst build quality for the longest time. Pixels have the most security issues than all other brands combined. It's just that no youtuber has guts to talk about it. Every youtuber made 'bend-gate' videos when some iPhones got bent. But nobody made a single video to point out that until pixel 6, all google phones were not only bendable but also foldable. Prominent youtubers take huge dumps on Apple or Samsung time to time for lulz. But they haven't got balls to point out easily bypassable security lock of the pixels or those dozens of severe security flaws many of which still remain unfixed till date. Yeah, it's good that pixels receive those security updates for a long time because placebo they might be, they still need them.

It's a screenshot of the Google I/O. It's a good example of how deranged Google has become. Google thinks everyone is an instagram non-binary teenager and lives in california.

If camera / gaming is not the use case then even the sub 15k Samsung F14/M14 5G have more stable modem than Pixel 6a.
Been saying this since pixel 1 days. As I have the misfortune of travelling in public transport i have been noticing this first hand like every single day. Random Samsungs (and even china ones) which cost like one third keep working while mine just goes away.
