Case / Cabinets

So many new cabinets will be coming this year after computex. its going be a good case year

I'm going to be getting a new case for my second PC so will keep an eye out for what's to come! Primary case is in the 780t and I'm still so much in love with the case that I won't change it. There is no actual need to either because it's been serving me so well for the last 6 years now. Such a well designed and sturdy case it is!

I just hope for a good design cabinet with 4 hdd bays for 3.5" hdd as nowadays it seems 1 or 2 3.5" bays is the norm for most mid range/good cabinets nowadays.

Try to find something used in OLX (old Corsair or Cooler Master cabinets).
I got the CM Storm Scout 2 Advanced for 2000 2 years ago. Built like a tank.

Exactly! This is another solid reason I plan on sticking to the 780t because of the many 3.5" bays it has. If you don't want them you can completely unscrew them and take the bays out of the case as well. I love that option!

I do have SSDs in my PC but I also have normal HDDs and always like a proper bay in the front of the case cooled by the front case fans. This design was pretty gold standard in the past (before the tempered glass cases showed up) and I still love that layout till date.

I also have doubts regarding this "psu shroud hdd bays" design as I don't see how the cooling there can be same as the traditional design hdd bays in front of cabinet.

These days it's a lot about the looks and builds with AIO's, RGB/ ARGB fans to showcase the expensive inner hardware. The HDD bays infront take away from that clean, aesthetically pleasing looks. Hardly anyone wants to look at HDDs and thus they are shoved in the back or upper area, beyond direct line of sight.

Some of us here are still old skool when it comes to cases and still prefer the front arrangement for HDDs along with having robustly made all steel cases. I still long for a CM Stacker or Antec 1200!

Temps definitely went down for me on Lian li 216 from old CM Force 500 case. Both Hard disk and SSD kept in ""psu shroud hdd bay" vs old hdd bay style.
ofc, my old one may just have been inadequate for 3080, was bought for another build with cpu only.

Anyway, i prefer new style cases, except the forced glass panels. They apparently can break easily on ceramic + surprisingly can be quite heavy. All for some rgb that i will never look at.

You are right but I mostly see here for used pc stuff & oftentimes such cabinets classifieds come from south/mumbai so not getting them as I will only do local pickup for cabinets. In NCR it seems most ppl either already got rid of such cabinets or keeping them as usually some cabinets I do see here are quite old with maybe 6/7 out of 10 condition if lucky. In worst case scenario I will just get the typical entry level old design 6 hdd bay new cabinet & use it as secondary system/file server.

Lian li 216 has acrylic side panel not glass side panel?

Nope its glass and quite heavy. I make sure to remove it only over bed and then keep it aside, avoid letting it hit floor.

I am always looking for new sff cabinets but it does not like there will be anything mass produced like nr200 for this year.

AP201 is great for the price. Sama is launching a new model SAMA QUZAO 2. Zeb Woodan and Galax rev 03 were Sama clones, so this one should also get the same treatment.

Are there even cabinets nowadays using acrylic side panel(excl old models like corsair 100R)?
No idea, all the ones i looked at had Tempered glass. Its actually quite strong and does not break easy - but shatters if it hits something stronger like ceramic. And its quite a bit heavier vs metal panels. To me its a**h*le design - form over function, should have been a niche rather than standard. But that's how it is. I had to change because my case had become a hotbox, unable to remove heat. 216 works very nicely with default fan config itself and + have many more options. Happy with it.

Looks like i am a little biased towards nr200.
NR200 requires all SFF components, mini ITX mobo and SFX power supply which will all thousands to the budget and still you will have extremely limited options on motherboard.

While Sama SM01 is just a little bigger while allowing more mainstream components like microATX mobo and regular sized ATX PSU which saves a ton of money.

SFF parts are still very costly and available is rare in India, although it is improving.

Green - Sama SM01 / Zeb Woodan / Galax REV-03 (micro ATX + ATX PSU)

Blue - CMNR200P (mini ITX + SFX PSU)

@john1911 I think for such cases having hdd at bottom is not a good choice in the long term especially when also using a graphics card in horizontal position as that would severely affect the cooling of hdd, maybe for ssd it won't be an issue.

Yup, there is almost no space for a HDD inside. You can cram one but as you said, it is not recommend. That's the price one has to pay for going SFF.

I agree with you. But if I am talking about me i want to go more small. Right now I am using formd T1v2 which is around 9.9 litres. But i don't want to comprise on the parts, like full sff parts like sfx psu but not anything smaller than that as they are not available in Indian market. But yes sff hobby is very pricey.
