Apple pay - Is it finally coming to India?

I saw a few reddit posts about apple pay possibly coming to India by March 2024. If this is true, would you prefer this over Gpay / PayTM (UPI)?

No, for privacy reasons — Apple knows way more than Google about me, I wouldn't use any Apple service that can personally identify me.

How did you end being Market Restricted after being here for two years? Did you say anything to the admins to make them suspicious of you?

I have no idea? I just saw I am Market restricted today - I have reached out to Mods to understand / review. I have never defrauded anyone and all my feedbacks have been on point.

Apple isnt sharing the data with advertisers is how they position themselves right? They ask for the opt-in always.

Not acceptable. Google is way more prevalent across websites(google analytics) mining data. Apple doesnt have such practices.

the research project on google vs apple - which collects more data, showed that google is collecting more and sending data more frequently than apple.

I should have clarified because my situation is unique.

I don't sign in to use any Google service except for Google Pay and Play Store, both of which are on seperate accounts. All play store purchases are done through gift cards, so my personal payment information isn't shared between the two accounts. Similarly, all of my App store purchases are also done through gift cards.

My main computing devices are Apple, whether on a desktop, laptop or tablet and I am always signed in to my Apple account but with iCloud syncing disabled. So in my case, Apple has more access to my personal than Google, and I would not want to my day to day spending habits to be shared with Apple who also would have access to my browsing and media consumption habits.

It's important to note that Apple operating in the US doesn't capitulate to government pressure as easily as Apple operating outside the US.

Off topic and at the cost of the thread getting derailed, I will put this out there -
The links turn up enough information.
Both G and A are evil; I do not have enough information to decide which is lesser.
Will that matter much to all the folks who will jump on to Apple pay ? Naah, I don't think so.

It's a chicken and egg situation. Many shops will be wary of putting it up for the fear of not finding enough takers. People will be wary of using it because it won't be available everywhere.

UPI is available at vegetable and chaat stalls now. Don't know what Apple pay can offer above that to incentivise people to use it. They can't allow pin free transactions as RBI regulations don't permit that beyond a limit. So you'll have to tap instead of scan, that's all. Everything else remains same.
