And at same time their work is highly demanding.
Ipad can handle such things easily.
So those are the people that will find this great tool.
I suppose so, but what kind of work are you able to do on an iPad that you cannot do more efficiently on a Mac, with a dedicated and rather nice keyboard?

I can't really think of any scenario that would need a top-spec'd iPad tbh...
For cheaper 'video production', people are generally going iPhone + Mac route, since iPhones are easier to work/record videos with and Mac has a wonderful video editor.
For whatever use you need an iPad, maybe kiosk, data monitoring etc, I don't see why lower models can't do it either.

I'm not saying that there isn't a space for such an iPad, I'm just saying that they might be better off running MacOS on that thing which allows for a lot more control (eMDM, syncing) and freedom (dev tools, sideloading, actual good user-interface with KB/Mouse that doesn't hinder your display or timeline) instead of iPadOS :p

But then again, I'm not really a part of such a group, so I wouldn't know any better, I guess. I'll just buy the next-best thing which — for me — is a Mac, or if Apple launches it again, an iPhone Mini. Never owned the latter, but I like small form factor devices... so...

$999 for ipad pro 11inch.

Tbh I was expecting it to be at that price. So not surprised at all.

Still expensive. Might be able to get it from USA in November, If my sister travels. Not buying at Indian price. Almost 15k difference.

I'm definitely impressed with new ipad though.
They really went all out with M4 on latest ipad.
There is an 5-7k delta at best. Are you forgetting the ~7-9% tax in the US?

$999 * 1.07-1.09 * 83.5 FX * 1.035 FX fee * GST = 93-95k approx. It’s for 99990 here in India

if you buy in cash and get a great fx conversion you might be able to get it slightly cheaper than this but it ain’t worth losing warranty. Additionally you might be about to get 4-5k on HDFC or something in a few months

Yup - India pricing is pretty fair considering inclusive of 18% GST here and the $999 figure excl Sales tax .

If you have to choose between a Mac and an iPad pro, by all means it should be the Mac - No questions asked.
But if you have an existing mac (or a windows laptop for that matter), The ipad pro ends up being a very nifty device and also tends to last ridiculously long.

My wife's A12X ipad pro is probably from circa 2018 and works / behaves like a champ for the intended usage - which would not have been the case with the base ipad (which would have probably gone through at least 2 upgrade cycles by now). So in some sense, it did turn out to be a cheaper or at least at par buy in the long run - but with a better experience through the lifecycle.

I am more of a power user but am easily able to get away with the ipad pro + kb case most of the time . Of course if i have to do something intensive (creating a spreadsheet/ using a terminal/ troubleshooting something), I switch over to the Mac.
However for everyday stuff (both work and personal- eg Teams calls/ emails , reviewing / annotating PPTs or spreadsheets or browsing/ ordering stuff/ media playback), i tend to pick the ipad pro instead (mine is the 2021 12.9)
I'd probably say that my usage pattern is 60:40 in favor of the ipad.

I dont think its going to need an upgrade for many more years to come - which again would not have been the case with a lower variant

For most people the base level Ipad is more than enough.

But it's not just that ....say you are a wedding photographer/videographer and you need to do a quick presentation of your work to an entire family.
Will you take your MacBook or an ipad?

Presentation can be a first impression.

This is just one case scenario.

Btw not sure if many of you would have noticed or not.

Once again Apple seems to have offline GPS chip only on cellular model.

So for people going to use for navigation offline will need to go for cellular model only.

Even Samsung with its most budget tablets since years back has gps inbuilt for offline.

Your calculations are correct.
Maybe if some good offer going on there in November otherwise will get it from here only.

going to second that. my ipad pro m2 is the most used device amongst all my devices for the past year. Especially after I bought the magic keyboard. I just wish it had better battery. Also 12.9 pro + Magic Keyboard is a little heavy and bulky

Really disappointed there's no iPad Mini. I think I'd personally be better off with one as I find the Pro 11" too big.

As I understand it, out of the box, without purchasing Apple care, warranty is limited to country of purchase. Apple India support partners do not provide warranty on internationally purchased devices. At least for iPhones iPads and watches. It may be different for MacBooks though. Please let us know if you’ve had a different experience.

I’ve never had to claim warranty on any of my international purchases so it’s based on internet gyan.

There is no free lunch
The magic KB has added extra weight at the bottom to keep the combination stable because of that suspended floating design.

The KB folio has no such stability restriction as the weight of the ipad itself keeps it stable - It adds no more weight than any regular protective case.
on the flip side, you do miss the trackpad at at times.
If i had to pick one of the two though, it would be the folio.

Usually works fine - although have never had to use it for anything except one instance with Airpods pro.
All they asked for is valid proof of purchase. I could not find the invoice in email but could find the UPS tracking ID email from apple so that sufficed.

Nonethless, US price excl taxes and India price excl GST is almost the same (unlike say iphone pro/ pro max)
Local purchase will be around the same/ only marginally higher with student discount or card offers or GST ITC

No experience as such but that was my assumption. I just did some sleuthing and I still find contradictory statements. I guess some of it makes sense for stuff like iPhone where parts/cellular tech might be region specific and repairs probably need parts from source region. But might not be the case for macs.

I’ve also seen folks mention AC+ is covered globally but gotta double check that also now.

Where did you get it services from? Reliance?

As for the last part, I don’t think it really matches except for when Apple is running deals on older hardware in the country where pricing might be better. But if you have folks who do the annual Black Friday trip to no-sales-tax state and hoard stuff, can get for way cheaper ;)

It only gets cheaper in the US around the end of the lifecycle.
Unlike India, US never gets sale discounts on iphones and relatively small discounts on ipad .

The last cheap ipad i was able to pickup was the 2018 ipad pro in 2019 for around 650 odd incl taxes.
For whatever reason, apple tends a lot less discounting (and practically no deep discounting) in the US.

The only apple device that always makes distinct sense to pick in US (or UAE/HK etc) is the iphone pro which for some reason has a very high price premium locally.
Macbooks also have a somewhat higher pricing here (though not as bad as iphone pro)
iPads and iphones otoh can be cheaper here if you find the right discount (all the more so for folks who can get a GST ITC)

$949 presale offer.
India will also have HDFC offers soon I believe.

Btw looks like latest Ipad Ad did not well with most people.
To me also while watching live already felt it was poor in taste.
