Budget 41-50k Help Building a 40k Office/Gaming PC.

I'm looking to build in a small cabinet (in as small as possible microATX case) which can fit regular ATX PSU and mATX motherboard. MiniITX will be too costly.

Few years ago I built in Galax REV-03 (22 liters) and it was pretty compact. If not available, something like AntEsport Crystal X2 White.

40k budget is for cabinet, motherboard, CPU, RAM (32GB) and PSU. Have a GPU 1650S (will put 3070 later)
Special request: Need an eight-core processor (just because I always wanted to have one and never had ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

  1. What is your budget?
    • 40K (can extend a bit if required)
  2. What is your existing hardware configuration (component name - component brand and model)
    • A decade old laptop (i7-4710HQ, 860M)
  3. Which hardware will you be keeping (component name - component brand and model)
    • Monitor - 24" 1080p as of now, will upgrade later.
    • SSD - already have, will be using that.
  4. Which hardware component are you looking to buy (component name). If you have already decided on a configuration then please mention the (component brand and model) as well, this will help us in fine tuning your requirement.
    • I'm yet to decide the parts.
  5. Is this going to be your final configuration or you would be adding/upgrading a component in near future. If yes then please mention when and which component
    • Will add a 3070 or 3060Ti next month.
  6. Where will you buy this hardware? (Online/City/TE Dealer)
    • Online purchase (prefer used parts at TE), otherwise Vedant/MDComp/PrimeABGB/Amazon etc.
  7. What is your intended use for this PC/hardware
    • Usual office work 90% of the times - Word/ PDFs/PowerPoint/Chrome etc. Little gaming over the weekend like Uncharted 4, maybe some PS3 emulation (RPCS3).
  8. Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them and the reason for your preference/dislike.
    • Would like to avoid brands with poor warranty and service.
  9. If you will be playing games then which type of games will you be playing?
    • Single person story driven games - Ghost of Tsushima, Uncharted 4, Witcher 3, etc. Don't require high refresh rate gaming.
  10. What is your preferred monitor resolution for gaming and normal usage
    • I have a 24" 1080p monitor now, thinking of upgrading to 1440p monitor in a while.
  11. Are you looking to overclock?
    • No, might undervolt a bit. :p
  12. Which operating system do you intend to use with this configuration?
    • Windows 11 64 bit

Updates-

Almost finalized the cabinet - Antec CX200M. Volume ~ 28 liters (not great, not terrible). Comes with 5 x 120mm fans installed. 4000 gone, 36000 remaining for CPU, Motherboard, RAM & PSU.

Thinking of going with B450 platform. I don't see any benefit of going with B550, is there any?

Motherboard should have inbuilt Wi-Fi + Bluetooth (the USB ones never work well) & two M.2 slots.

I think you should go for an AM5 build even if you get an 8-core AM4 processor like a 5800x or a 5700x the performance is going to be worse or at best equivalent to that of the 6-core 7600. So by spending just around 5-7k extra you can step into the newer gen platform with a promise of future upgradability and better performance.

Seems the logical thing to do TBH. Looking at what all to get if I'm going with AM5 build.

Is there anything worthwhile from Intel in this budget? Haven't given Intel a thought yet. :sweatsmile:

You can take a look at the 13600kf it is about 4k more but has similar gaming performance and better multi threaded performance but it also consumes much more power and is subject to faster silicon degradation over time, this problem may not be as bad as in case of the i9 but it is there.

I was exploring Intel but here are few updates -

Getting a 5800X at 14k. Thinking of buying it. Looking for something cheaper.
Also, have a Deepcool Gammaxx 400XT from some previous build (supports AM4).
