PC Peripherals My PC is shutting down even when it is connected to an UPS during power loss

where did you connect the power? the ups has 4 surge+battery and 1 only surge sockets. surge socket does not provide battery.

Check if you are using correct socket, if yes. given m720q is a very low power device ups is not able to provide backup you may need to change the battery.

I agreed to and liked your post as this mostly seems like a case of not adequate power from the ups

however, in this case the behavior is shutdown during power loss...if he connects to the main...the pc will simply shut down as well

so only way to pin point if it is the ups is to connect it to a higher power ups and see if it still occurs (not the main)

Yes, the PC is shutting down only during the power loss situation

Additional info: The UPS is connected to two other monitors and a router, all of them except PC work fine during a power cut. The problem persists even when only PC is connected to UPS
 
This happens to me too under load. If I'm playing something like cyberpunk, the system shuts down the moment there's a powercut but under light load, like browsing or Valorant, it doesn't turn off. Gives backup for like 5/10 mins.

Try manually switching off the power supply to the UPS (turn off the switch) and see if the behaviour is same.

Additionally try connecting the PC directly to the socket which has inverter supply and see if the behaviour is same.

Approx how many watts does it consume?

For me this is happening all the time irrespective of the load on PC

Unfortunately, I don't have any inverter at home. I don't how many watts my PC is consuming. The power supply is a 65W adapter. Is there any easy way to measure power consumption of my PC?

Connect the PC to the UPS, but switch off the mains power supply to the UPS. Now switch on the computer. Does it work? In other words, switch the PC on via the battery of the UPS.

What I'm trying to find out here is whether the switching delay that happens when the UPS switches from mains to battery is too long for the PSU to handle and hence it shuts down. Low power devices like monitors are often more tolerant to longer switching delays.
 
Thanks. I tried this before, the issue persists. Google says UPS delay is 10-12 ms. How do I find out if my mini PC's power adapter can tolerate this delay
 
First check exactly what's the switching time of your UPS and then try finding the power hold on time of your systems power supply online or on youtube.......usually PSU's have higher power hold on time about 15-20ms with 20ms on platinum PSUs

APC ups have typical switchover time range of 2-10ms so enough for any typical psu which should have at least 15ms hold-up time.

You can't unless some good psu reviewer/website thoroughly reviews that specific model adapter. Try running a 100-200W device/appliance from your ups battery for 2-3 minutes to check battery health as it should be able to run it easily for that duration (try desert cooler or a 32" led tv). Also, try the suggestion given above "Try manually switching off the power supply to the UPS (turn off the wall socket/mains switch to which ups is connected) and see if the behaviour is same."
 
The ups isn't able to provide the current required after a power cut. As power goes off pc use current left in smps capacitor and they gets drained and now require higher current to refill and supply to the cpu components. Thats why it is shutting off. The battery is weak.
 
Changing the battery should resolve the issue. Old and weak battery can cause this . Try Amaron Quanta it's a good one. When my UPS failed I had also switched to Quanta
