Any suggestions on a basic laptop with a good screen and a durable chassis?

As long as it can be upgraded to 16GB of RAM, should be enough.

Brand preference towards Dell and HP.

If you're not insistent on new, a refurb elitebook 840 is a great choice. Aluminium -Magnesium unibody chassis, choice of good screens (dependent on sellers) replaceable keyboard, good parts availability. Same for a latitude 7/8 series. You should be able to get a very nice config within 30k.

Hi @greenhorn I am looking for a similar laptop under 30k, such as Thinkpad X1 Carbon 6th gen. Where should i exactly look into? Is there any way one could get a used laptop from US forwarded to India.

i have checked lots of refurb and used laptop, specifically latitude and thinkpad--- please ask for unrapaired item, as most refut company or seller swap original scrren and parts with cheap quality TN screen and low quality keyboard or parts
at times you dont get the feel of using Thinkpad or lattitude and kills whole purpose of it

if speding 30k better go with new laptop, you get company wattanty and original factory condition

i had bought a dell lattidue refurbr, but it was repaired item, 3.5 jack not working, speaker not working
later bought Thinkpad, --only the motherboard was thinkpad, body, keyborad, screen, etc was changed, it did not feel like using thinkpad

later returned it and got refund, just sharing my experience

@ShivamRaj selling HP 8th gen i5 for 21k, Thread HERE
That's a probook. Plastic with metal here and there. Not as rugged

I would strictly encourage you to buy from a local guy only after inspecting everything.
