Acer Warranty Claim Query

If I wet the bed, does that make me cute?

Hi all,

So my Acer X272U KV decided to take a shit on me today. The monitor was working fine in the morning. I turned it off in the afternoon. When I turned it back on this evening, it started turning on and off, continuously (like it's flickering). The interval between switching on and off is about a second. To turn the monitor off completely (besides unplugging it), I have to time it right, and press the power button during the 'on' interval, and it switches off. When I try switching it back on, the same thing happens. The power light and monitor go on and off, together. This issue has nothing to do with the PC/GPU (it's turned off).

Troubleshooting steps taken:

  1. Changing power cables
  2. Changing the power outlet
  3. Disconnecting from the PC entirely
  4. Powering off, pressing the power button for 30 seconds for a hopeful reset
The monitor is under warranty (bought last year in May from Amazon). I live in Kolkata.

Any help in how I may approach for a warranty claim would be appreciated. Do I need to take it to a city-based service center? Or would Acer arrange for a pick-up? Any leads on a city-based service center (for those residing in Kolkata) would be appreciated.

For now I'm using a VU 50" TV to work, and it's not fun.

Thanks!

I recently got my monitor replaced by Acer, they did a home drop of the new one and picked up the old one. Mine is one of the cheapest ones they have too so I was kinda surprised they did a pickup/drop. Here's what I did:
Call the contact centre > they tell me send an email with a video of the issue > I get a call from the local rep, he asks me to send the video again on whatsapp > he arranges the replacement, takes a few days.

The replacement was new, according to the guy who dropped it off, but he said they give either new or refurbished depending on what stock is available.

Thanks for the reply. Acer's warranty is onsite (according to the warranty check page), I suppose that's why.

Update: The monitor magically started working again just before I could send Acer an email. Can't wrap my head around what went wrong in the first place. I'll use it for now. If it crops up again, I'll send the email.

For reference, here's a video of what was happening:

looks like the issue is going to show itself again soon...better get it replaced within warranty

I'll have to wait until the issue crops up again. It's working fine now. Unless I can replicate the issue, they won't accept it. I have two years of warranty remaining, so at least some consolation.

Just tell them it's an intermittent issue that occurs randomly. If possible, make another video showing the issue + move the camera to the back to show the serial number. That will be enough proof

When they're getting you a replacement, confirm the exact model number over phone before they visit you. They got me the wrong model twice before getting the right one.

Update: I have written to Acer today for assistance, with a video of the issue. Mentioned it's an intermittent issue. This seems to happen every time the monitor is off for a few hours and then turned back on. It flickers (in the same way as described above) for 30 seconds or so, before turning back on normally. No issues after that.

one service center person, 2 decades ago, told me that monsoon is death period for Screens/Display Units. Don't know how that ... still stands with improving technology

Could be capacitor issue perhaps ? I had similar problems with power supply i think where once booted there was no issue. It died maybe in a few months.

High humidity and dust leads to corrosion in coastal areas. My old dell monitor though is running fine for 10+ years now in mumbai whether. It looks bad, has some kind of spots, but is functional.
Need to get a dehumidifier.

I sent the mail on Saturday. No reply. Sent them a reminder, today.

I suppose because of it being a Saturday, they don't reply.

The service engineer came to my house this past Tuesday. The monitor was working fine at that point. Explained the situation to him, and how the problem crops up (as described earlier in this thread) after being switched off for a few hours.

He opened a complaint log and mentioned it would be kept under observation for three days. I would have to send him a fresh video of the issue, showing the serial and model number at the back. They would then approve the replacement, and send it within a few days. I did so and sent the video to him the next morning. No reply since then. Also sent two reminders, asking for an update. The messages are just left on read. Cannot call him, as every time I do, it just drops immediately (don't know if my calls are blocked, or that number has no incoming).

However, according to the service tracker link that Acer had provided over email, it shows that repair is in progress, which I assume is the replacement being processed. I will give him the benefit of doubt and wait till mid-next week (or until the status updates further), before writing to Acer for an update.

Update:

They never had the same model in stock, as it's discontinued. They offered me the XZ306CX, which is a 30" Curved Ultrawide. Since I WFH and needed a monitor ASAP, I agreed to it.

Got delivered today, brand new and sealed. It's VA, but a surprisingly good panel and viewing angles. Happy with the monitor.

The RMA process took some time (almost 3 weeks), but a positive experience, overall.

Enjoy VA contrast too - good for darker scenes vs ips.

Is there a noticeable difference going fron ips to va .
The backlight bleed is much lesser vs IPS. Viewing angles are inferior (although the curve helps mitigate that, to an extent). Contrast and blacks are more vivid vs IPS, but color accuracy is the trade-off, which is better in IPS. Overall, it's very good in its strengths.
