Anecdotal evidence but I got 2, still used daily in office, the older one (HP @ 2010) is mostly used in office as excel, sister's Dell @2011, is a secondary laptop for my father to to Tally/Excel and youtube and a 2014 Dell used by Mom for work, both dells cost <50k, the 2014 one has win 10 running on it and I upped the ram to 16 and got a SATA ssd for it. Honestly, it all depends on how you use your electronics, we have decade old mobiles (and 7-8 year old androids) still running and given out to staff, a 2009 PC still running with all of its original components, a mouse/keeb bought in 1999 still in use, you get the gist right? I can even send proof if you want. Apple is not unique in this, shit just used to be built like a tank in those days.My 2012 Macbook Pro works just as well as it did when I built it (another story). I don't know of anyone who has a non-apple laptop from 2012 that's still useful for daily browsing/streaming/spreadsheeting.
