Buying car for dad - Tiago Vs. i10

Hi folks. My dad is looking to buy a new car. He's currently using a 12-year old Alto K10 which he's looking to retire. We want something low cost. So we've narrowed down to Tiago or i10.

The reason for shortlisting these two are that we want to stick to brands which have a large presence in India, so that maintenance is not a big hassle. My dad is 65, quite fit as of now, but seeing his age, I want the car to be low hassle, hence these brands.

He has a small business and uses the car for his daily commute to work, around 10-12 km. Other than that, there's the usual trip to airport once in a while and some shopping trips to the mall.

I wanted to get some first hand feedback from people who have owned/driven these cars. Which one would be a better choice and what are the pros and cons of each?

Tata has bad reputation for service quality, but it depends highly on the dealership. You need to check your local Tata dealer's reputation and if the service experience is good, I would go with Tata just for the 5* safety rating. If they have a bad rep then i10 can be justified. Personally I have a 10 year old i10 and it has been a great and reliable car, but my next car will be something with 4-5* safety rating as I cannot compromise on that, already lost two family members to road accidents.

My friend was considering these 2 + Swift for his dad, after our research we decided to finalise i10. He bought it a year ago. Main reasons to consider i10 were the 4 cylinder 1.2L engine (bigger advantage now that Swift is downgraded to 3cyl), bit smaller than swift, Hyundai's track record of being less maintenance heavy (like Tata) but at a slightly higher part cost than MS (but less frequent changes so evens out kind of, not sure how much true now). Tata has a bad name for poor QC as well.

IMO check out Ignis if going MS. Just test drive multiple options.
