Pen recommendation (fountain pen alternatives)

Hi Everyone,

I had to retire my trusted Lamy because of old age (~ 17 years). A cheap Parker I am using right now doesn't quite cut it.

I was wondering if there are good cheaper alternatives to a fountain pen. Looking for one that has a smooth glide and good ink flow control.

Thanks

Roller ball pens are smooth and write great.
You could go for a uniball roller ball pen or good old pilot v5/v7.

Uniball 0.3 mm are out of world in offering writing pleasure - striking colors, superbly saturated hues, delicately thin lines, waterproof lubricated ink, easy to hold & handle, abuse friendly

Get another Lamy. Or any other good FP.

I have tried almost every gel pen out there in the market, but the main problem is the quality control. One batch writes well, next batch not so much. In terms of smoothness, pilot v5/v7 are indeed the best ones out there. But non refillable is annoying, and the ink is anything but water resistant. There's Hauser Sonic gel, which is good but the said batch difference is there. Others I tried like Reynolds Racer gel etc are not even worth trying.

@ssslayer please post a link to the product

Thanks Guys. Bought both v5 and v7. v7 feels a lot nicer. Will report back after using them for some time.

The local shop only had black, He told me it doesn't come in blue.

Uniball Eye Ultra Micro – UB150-38

I see the tip is 0.38 mm, not 0.3 mm, nevertheless it is finer that usual and imparts a lovely crisp feeling to handwriting - especially if your loops have flourishes and the letterform include finer details. Utterly hate the 0.7 mm or the 1 mm thick ones which just leave a large ink blot on the paper robbing all the finer details of handwriting.

If you are looking for cheap reliable and waterproof ink pen, you can go for Uniball Signo 207 or Uniball Signo 307 Gel pen (Rs. 120/-) along with UMR-87 refills (Rs. 60 ).
And they all write same, not different from one batch to another. Very good for students and professionals.

Is plastic nib pens available now, if am not mistaken, like these:
Liked to have these kind of pens long back.

Also, have to tried the legendary : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shanghai_Hero_Pen_Company
were sought after decades back :)
