Hello Friends,

What is AI Enabled Processor and how will it useful for General Office Work Users (non software/non engineering users)?

Your suggestions please?

errr. sorry ... I don't want answer generated from AI tool, but some real world reply that make me understand if can invest in AI Enabled processor for General Office uses.

Currently OEM's are only using it as a buzzword to market their newer laptops. All PC's are capable of handling LLMs in their current form and most people will end up using tools like chat-gpt, claude, etc on the web itself unless you want to host one locally, which you can still easily do on current hardware.

Like we had VR as a buzzword back in 2018 and it died down. Tech companies are just riding this AI wave till it lasts.

I use AI (copilot) for general office use. At times I find it a bit counter productive.

From drafting emails to preparing documentation, I use copilot and it does not need any hardware based processor to run it.

It turns completely useless if I ask it to help me with a pivot table on an excel or summarize a PowerPoint deck.

For now, wrt general office use it really does not offer much value addition.

Precisely said @kalph09
Currently AI Enabled processors are not released yet. AMD has released names of their models, Qual. Snapdragon Elite, Elite X & intel will follow suit by this year end. However the end user config laptops will be released at a later point of time at an astounding price. For end use in General office work, it is not needed, most work fine on web using high speed internet connection. Some apps will get better as time progresses with using AI tech, fingers crossed for Copilot but its subscription for Professional use will eat into our budget too. So there is an added budget to get its licence to use. Also there is a question of Data breach/ Privacy/ Security, office security compliances and client confidentiality agreements. So most gen office workbooks will not take advantage of AI based Proccy as of now solely being costly affair and AI still not feasible for mainstream office users.

AI is a marketing word. We dont have AI. Its just ML mixed with Neural learning.
So the processor is just made for Neural processing, and is useless for other uses.
If you dont want to use any heavy ML program, just dont waste money in cpu that comes with npu.
For general purpose, you can use it for editing images, videos, identifying objects, people, movement, voice/text stuff, translation, automating, searching, etc.
These all can be done without npu, but often required to send data to companies, which can now be done locally by more people more easily.
But still people use online services and tie everything with public accounts and identity.
I would just say, focus on your work normally, and then enjoy your life. Dont force yourself to use "features" you dont require...

Proper AI processor is nothing but a CPU that has NPU on die. Or it could be a AI accelerator used in data centers. Though a CPU can run AI tasks like speech recognition, image generation etc, an NPU can run it faster and at lower wattage. This helps a lot with overall efficiency and battery usage. The problem though is that we do not have a proper NPUs in processors at this point of time except the Apple M series chips. I think the new X Elite is good, waiting for proper ML experts to do number crunching.

It is very similar to how GPUs changed the PC and gaming industry. We were able to play games before gaming oriented GPUs came into picture. The first Macintosh that had a GUI did not have a GPU. Same is the case with current CPUs. They cannot render ML models like how an NPU can.

Hi Friends,

Any update or things has been change since thread started in June 2024, if yes, please give your valuable inputs ...

Well the tools and models continue to improve exponentially and most services will continue to be either hosted locally without the need for an "AI enabled" processor or on the cloud.

Gemini is free now for people to check out.

Google's latest and highest quality AI image generator is called Imagen 3 and it promises to bring "an even higher degree of photorealism", "better instruction following", and "fewer distracting artifacts" than ever before. It's also going to unleash "crisp detail", "vibrant color" and "fewer imperfections". It supports diverse styles from classic oils to modern digital art.

Soon imagine AI processing power actually learning your gaming patterns and then while you game there might be an option to continue in AI mode and you will be just an audience!
While AI is good but some things are better done by self than relying on AI else one day everyone will be a lazy-ass with no work!
