Laptops Just did an RMA with Lapcare. Fair experience

I Rma'd a laptop battery. It was 3 weeks out of the 12 month warranty period but if you register it with them, they give you one month extra.

The battery itself isn't that great quality tbh, it doesn't have a lot of the protection circuits the original had and it dumps power straight into the power rail instead of the battery rail for some reason.

Anyway, I shot them a mail regarding the RMA procedure but didn't get a reply (got a reply 3 days later) so I directly went to the service center. It was a bit difficult to locate. The location was pretty large, actually larger than the RMA centre for Crucial. Just one guy in lapcare tshirt buried in stacks of boxes. Lots of people were rma'ing motherboard. I gave in my battery , he scanned the code and then took my invoice, made a copy, made me sign it and then gave me and acknowledgement copy.

One week later he called that the product has arrived. I collected the battery which was in a bubble wrap pouch. It was not a fresh unit, it's a refurb unit with a bunch of sciffs and marks on it.

All in all a fair experience, the service was polite and smooth but would have loved it better if they gave a fresh new unit.

Hopefully this one lasts a couple of years.

That’s an interesting experience — I’ve never done an RMA myself. Quick question though: do you usually have to go straight to the service center for these kinds of replacements, or do brands prefer handling it through email/phone first? Also, how do you know if a product qualifies for RMA, especially when it’s just out of warranty like yours was?
