Guide Request to suggest a desktop for office/work/OTT (media) purpose (budget 50k)

Hi everyone,

My existing machine went kaput after nearly 16 years of smooth functioning (maybe because of the VX450). However, now I am trying to re-build a new setup and hence will only be using the existing components as follow:

1) Crucial MX 500 (500 gb) as additional HDD for storage
2) Kb/Mouse (wireless)

Usage: Majority of the usage will be work related (finance/excel/internet research etc) and balance entertainment (OTT/HD movies/music etc). I wont be playing much/any games except maybe old school titles such as CS 1.6/AOE.

Requirement: Everything that’s required for desktop setup (except the existing two items mentioned above).

Budget: Around Rs.50,000/- (fifty thousand) excluding Monitor (additional budget of Rs.15000/-). If required, I can increase the range to include critical components that might improve reliability factor.

Few additional points:
* I want reliability & speed (for multi tasking) as priority. Hence, would prefer quality components (I generally keep the system for a decade on average).
* MOBO + Cabinet should have multiple slots for USB (incl. type c), hdmi, headphone jacks, Inbuilt WiFi, Bluetooth (good range/strength), and would prefer if the cabinet is of smaller size to take limited space on my desk (I can’t keep the system behind/on floor or side). Need no side lights/transparent panels to avoid distraction/late evening working.
* Desktop might run for 12-15 hours a day.
* Heard a lot of good things about preferring 990 Pro over SN770, however, I would like to have everyone’s view on it.
* For monitor, I want sturdy stand/screen which do not wobble (old LG monitor used to shake when the fan just above it was at top speed). I Would prefer 24 or 27’ type large screen for splitting the excel window for simultaneous working. If there’s an audio jack for using headphones (for temporary usage) then all good, but not a must. Again, wont be gaming but just for work + movies (FHD). There’s direct sunlight that falls near the desk, hence might need something like IPS maybe?
* Need a suggestion wrt buying MS 11 (latest windows OS) or continue with existing structure of arrangements? Also how much will it cost to buy one and from where?
* I’ll be buying from Lamington/Mumbai market, and would find it easier if the seller does the wiring/assembling work as he’ll be able to neatly place cables for efficient airflow. Do suggest a good place for this.

Thanks once again and apologies for such a long post/requirements.

for Reliability will suggest Intel i5-12400, for other components & good price suggestions please wait some time ....

Any seller at Lemington (I prefer PrimeABGB for Genuine/Original Parts and Warranty Support but it might little higher in price side) will assemble system for you either for free or for Rs.500/- extra

This is the best I was able to come up with under 50k. I could have gone with amd, but the good motherboards under 15k don't seem to be in stock online
And having a motherboard above 15k, will lead the total cost to be above 60k

You can choose the ssd you want. I don't think you would really need the Samsung 990 pro. And I have been hearing about issues in samsung ssds recently.

WD 770, or even wd580 would be good enough for your usage.

I haven't done much research regarding monitors, so let someone else suggest it

50K is a good budget for an office PC without GPU. I thinking you should get a processor like Ryzen 7600 (or 7600x, the x variant doesn't come with stock cooler thus needs aftermarket cooler) or an Intel 14400 both of which come with integrated graphics so no need for a dedicated GPU.

Get more RAM (buy same stick) or more Storage whichever you prefer more.

You forgot to include storage in the budget. Also that PSU is rated C in SPL's PSU tier list and OP doesn't need that big of a PSU. 500W is more than enough which is why I suggested ASUS TUF Gaming 550W Bronze SMPS TUF-GAMING-550B (Rated B)

Thanks for your suggestion.

If I increase my budget by 10-15k, then what would you suggest wrt MOBO+CPU combo (still wont need GPU and no gaming).

For your use case, a NUC or mini PC is probably the best solution, especially if it is for office use and isn’t going to be upgraded often. The spec at 50k would be quite good compared to some of the suggestions here.

I have also been using the 990 Pro for several months now and would recommend picking up the loose ones sold here. I also have a SN770 in the same system and that runs much hotter while being inferior in performance.

If you are okay with used products you can probably get an open box/pulled ssd and a used cpu here on the forum itself which will save up more money.

I wont be upgrading much. It is for regular account works, regular software, internet usage, printing/pdf/word edits, movies/ott/music etc.

Do suggest few of these options as I want to use the system on continuous basis hence need reliability/quality components. Thanks once again for the help.

Minisforum usually has the best options and you could theoretically import one like this using the Desertcart Premium trial for which the cost would be less than what’s displayed.

I have personally not had a great experience with Electroniks India but they also have some decent options.

Otherwise, you can pick up a barebones from Lamington Road, though the PrimeABGB prices are higher.
