What stops internet access from being cheaper in India !!!

Anytime. 1. Airtel is (according to many and despite a spate of recent "anti-consumer" moves - according to customers, not me) still the best ISP in India as far as quality/stability is concerned. 2. Pings vary from network to network - from what I've seen, Beam's pings (even outside of...

What stops internet access from being cheaper in India !!!

Good luck. Hope you have quite a few crores at your disposal. Whatever you think it's going to cost, triple it :) - - - Updated - - - Just realized how sarcastic that sounds. But seriously, good luck - India needs lots and lots of data centres IMO. When you need peering, give me a call :) - -...

What stops internet access from being cheaper in India !!!

It's not just that the servers are domestic, it's that the bandwidth in use is PEERING bandwidth and not TRANSIT bandwidth. The same is true in Europe and the rest of Asia. In India we don't have that luxury because NIXI in it's infinite wisdom charges Rs14/GB as settlement charges, so most of...

Cable Broadband providers : Thane- 5net/Honesty/WNet

Don't know about hubs on Honesty since I don't bother with DC++, but cloning your MAC ID isn't the only thing that needs to be done... If you're using a dialer or 24online client when you connect the cable to your laptop, you'll need to configure the PPPoE settings on your router, which means...

How is honesty net ISP? Plan details available?

Nobody's perfect, but the service will depend on where you live as to how good it will be. If you live in the north-central suburbs (Vikhroli to southern Thane) it's their own infrastructure so the service should be alright, but if you live outside these areas the service is provided through...

    My new connection :D

Good to see Railtel is finally expanding outside of Whitefield. It's a pity they have a good backbone but no delivery and they charge too much for wholesale access :( @swatkats it seems you follow my Twitter ;)

Why can't we get better internet with fast speeds and large data caps?

Not necessarily. Some of them are on to it, but there are many, many obstacles in the way which are preventing a lot of the good stuff which needs to happen from getting through. Perhaps, but there are many people who are not OK with these plans, and what seems to be annoying customers most is...

Why can't we get better internet with fast speeds and large data caps?

So are we, FI, HK, JP, PT, SE, SG and SK all have 1Gbit/s already... 1. One also has to realize that India is really roughly on-par with many of the countries in it's class - that is, Developing & BRIC countries. Naturally though, for India's economy to grow, a better telecommunications...

Why can't we get better internet with fast speeds and large data caps?

What answer did you expect? Am I supposed to beat around the bush or use the usual support-query-answer that "a customer care representative will get back to you in 48 hours"? Heh. I'm only giving you a straight answer, and my own customer care reps will be told to do the same if you ever need...

Why can't we get better internet with fast speeds and large data caps?

I don't know yet. Current delays are not in my control. --- Updated Post - Automerged --- We're selling it as a fixed wireless solution, although the technology supports handover if anyone is on the move. These questions and more are answered at Hayai Broadband FAQs

Why can't we get better internet with fast speeds and large data caps?

Sorry. I come from a country where a town in a similar position in the country (geographically speaking) might have a population of about 12... (well, 12 thousand maybe Oamaru - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).

Why can't we get better internet with fast speeds and large data caps?

Mumbai, Pune and NCR are already having infrastructure put in place. Other cities are coming as we're able to build (Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad etc) but also some smaller cities on the way are likely to be wired up as well - after all, we pay for domestic capacity by the...

Why can't we get better internet with fast speeds and large data caps?

Not at all. If the demand is there, there's no reason we can't go there - especially if the town is on the way to somewhere else, as the town in question seems to be. Even better if it has a railway station, because that just makes getting bandwidth there easier.

Why can't we get better internet with fast speeds and large data caps?

    In this price band, our flat-rate plans do not apply, but for the data plans it should be easy enough to work out. Take your target price, subtract Rs550. Divide the result by 10 (because it's Rs10/GB). So Rs700 - 550 = 150. 150 / 10 = 15GB, or Rs1000 - 550 = 450. 450 / 10 = 45GB. Conversely...

Why can't we get better internet with fast speeds and large data caps?

This applies to data plans only, but yes. Certain parts of the infrastructure are a recurring cost every year. Correct. We can put fiber in the ground between you and our PoP (that's a fixed one-time cost), but as mentioned, the really big lines between our PoP and our central office...

Why can't we get better internet with fast speeds and large data caps?

Believe me, I'm well aware of the situation in Kolkata. I get several requests DAILY asking when we'll be coming there. I'm sure it'll be a good place for us, but I also understand Kolkata is a relatively price sensitive market too, and we're... not. The level of service we're providing comes...

Why can't we get better internet with fast speeds and large data caps?

I'd go with the brains thing. I'm not sure what you mean about investing money in purchasing bandwidth from other countries. Level 3 carries Netflix' traffic. I wouldn't be entirely surprised. We're planning to start our own internet exchange where we'll charge something like Rs30k a month...

Why can't we get better internet with fast speeds and large data caps?

Absolutely. You should probably see the FAQs page on IBF (I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link to it here) - the same which will be on our website (by popular request). There's two sides to the Netflix/ISP battle, and I should point out that this has a lot more to do with them being charged by...

Why can't we get better internet with fast speeds and large data caps?

I still don't follow. Tata and Bharti - even MTNL, BSNL and every other major operator have got fiber running all over the place (or at least are leasing fiber from someone), they could just as easily provide FTTH with some minor adjustments to their networks, but based on the way things are...

Why can't we get better internet with fast speeds and large data caps?

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "ahead". Most operators have cable going all over the place in some form or other. Bharti favours underground and faces very few outages. I can't say one way or the other about Reliance - perhaps you can fill me in. It's nice that they have fiber going...
