I got a D-Link DIR 300 for around 1600 its only compatible with DD-WRT but it gets the job done,did look around for other routers but they were above the 2K mark so settled with this one it gets the job done pretty well you could look at the thread I started here

I would second the D-Link Dir 300 but I can't vouch the performance using original firmware I am running DD-WRT it cost me 1640 Rs about a month back the range is pretty decent.
