    I don't think you will benefit by mismatching the RAMs. Your pc will run and the windows will detect the extra ram but unless you are running quad profile ( same spec on all rams) you wont benefit from it.

    Might be an issue with the RAM / motherboard. Try to get a diagnostic 4 pin Cpu speaker and connect it to the mobo and try to hear any error codes. Easier to sort it out that way.
