It looks different. Versions 4.0 till 6.0 had very similar GUI. When my computer knowledge was poor I thought they didn't changed anything :) . In comparison to netscape navigator which changed it's interface with every version.

It had to happen. Google didn't profit from it in anyway. Few adds that they show to users doesn't cover the bandwidth that they use.
