I just started a adguard home instance for another home and thought I’ll switch DNS for all devices at the router. The router is a Airtel provided router. I do remember playing around with this router to set a 192.168.3.xx lan network but when I tried to access the dhcp settings, they were all grayed out.
It’s a shame they often limit functionality like that. For your AdGuard Home setup, if you can’t change the router’s DNS, perhaps setting up a custom DHCP server on a Raspberry Pi or another device on your network could be an alternative. It’s more work, but gives you full control.
Routers are locked down by airtel, especially newer ones now even more so.
Basic settings such as DHCP configuration too is locked down.
However it’s possible to get them to enable bridge mode and use your own router to do the PPPoE dial-up (in case of line fiber)
and in case of AirFiber you can just switch to any other router of your choice and use DHCP for WAN settings.
Yes, that’s normal with Airtel routers; they lock down DHCP settings. If it’s greyed out, it’s likely restricted by the firmware. You could try logging in with a different admin account if you haven’t already. However, chances are you’ll need to bridge the router and use your own or manually set DNS per device. I had to do the same to get AdGuard working properly.
I do remember setting a custom DNS on the router page earlier.

Forget about that. You can’t change any settings. It’s all in the hands of airtel backend team, they use a protocol called tr069 to remotely control your router/modem.

I only get speeds of upto 200 on my “secondary” router, I pay for 300 mbps
Now the problem is if I raise a complaint regarding the speed, they guy will come and enable the wireless band on the airtel device and the speeds on that band will go to 300, so he would just blame my router and leave
Now I know for a fact that the router isn’t a problem as its a much better device (Tp link ax50 (ax3000) and tp link ax10(ax1500), I tried both) as compared to the shit that airtel provides.. What can I do?
Also when I had asked them to enable bridge mode, I was on 200 mbps plan, Is it possible that they had limited the lan port to that speed back then?, If yes, who can I contact to get this fixed because the local teams usually aren’t trained for this bridge mode crap..
