LOL Iosoft you dont look at valve’s survey, for christ sake Intel is the huge leader in corporate segment, and how many companies allow you to play CS ?..
BTW Quad cores et all is bullshit, till k8l architecture is out c2d is gonna rule the roost. Bloody I dont need to buy 5-6 fans to cool processing power. Besides I give 4 yrs max for desktops to survive the commercial market, corporates are more or less shifting to laptops. Suddenly it will no longer be profitable to manufacture these power guzzlers anymore, and you will just find a couple of products whcih only uber rich can afford.
I am afraid that's not possible.Even if they manage to bring down the prices of their chips(which they can't for they will suffer huge losses) , you will still need an expensive setup to run those chips. The only mobos that can run those high end proccy's like FX 74 sell for around 500$$.Besides it will also need 1000$ PSUs.So even if the proccy price is reduced the high end AMD setup will still cost a lot.
Who in the right mind will pay that kinda of amount ??
^^ Quad cores is just the begining, a decade from now you will probably have 128 core processors. Reason being, we have kind of hit the wall as far as clock speed on a single core is concerned, so now the manfacturers are going towards putting more than 1 core on a processor to gain extra computing power. You will soon have applications that use multithreading etc to leverage all cores.
In 1999 when we had Celeron 300 Mhz processor with 64 MB of RAM, it was hard to imagine that 5 years later, yuo would have GPUs that would outdo the whole bloody PC at 800 Mhz with 512 MB of DDR3 RAM.
As far as cooling is concerned, the C2Ds are more efficient and less heat prone than single core P4, similarly technology would mature that you could cool your quad cores with a single copper fan. Whether you like it or not, we will be buying more cores, and that too, bloody soon (starting from next year).
Regarding corporates shifting to laptops, well they will. But havent we seen C2D laptops in market already, what makes you think you wont see Quad core desktops? Also, at least for the gamers and heavy downloaders, you will always need a desktop to suffcie your Laptop. Laptops are for general day to day work, desktops are for regular downloading, MCE PCs and gaming. They are here to stay.
