Iam thinking of buying 80GB sata or 120gb pata which would save 1000/- . shuld i go for sata option or pata keeping in mind i’ll increase the storage in two months.
2.Iam thinking of goin for the 17" non flat that would save 1500-1700 more.
3.has the RAM prices gone more again .. ??? i could see in the threads that it was 1800 but now ??
is the UPS right ?? and should i go for 1000VA or any suggestions ??
Dont compromise on things you wont be able to upgrade like the moniter.. As of now skip the UPS and buy it later… Cause i really dont think you have an option to downgrade from there… And BTW welcome to TE… Glad you made it here…
you can delay the purchase but i don think you should compromise to save 5K.
Specially monitor is big no-no. Flat monitor is Flat monitor. I would never go for non FLAT monitor, its huge diference for me.
HDD- well its up to you and how much storage you need.
Going for PATA wont affect overall performance much other than the cable system. SATA has smaller cables and hence less obstruction to air flow inside the case.
There aint to much of difference now in AGP and PCI express system. It wont save you more than 1.5K.
Also please tell me you are going for 256x2 DDR RAM. 512X1 wont be able to do dualchannel on that board. Ideally you should have gone for 512x2=1GB but 256x2 will do for now.Add more later.
Also yes, i talked to my dealer and he confirmed that transcend was down to 2700-2800 for very short period of time but its again at 3100-3300 here in mumbai.
I would strictly advise agaisnt Asrock board… cause the boards are cheap allright but arent as great… And dont bother about UPS that much… I am in Noida too and you can live without it… If it hurts you go get it later…
And yes MSI Neo2 platinum is a good board… Well let me give you a little briefing about some chipsets and thier specs along with Indian Avaiaibility…
VIA KT880PRO Chipset Supports 939/AGP/Sata/Pata/Dual channel Best Available board ASUS A8V Dlx Rev 2.0
Nforce3Ultra Chipset Supports 939/AGP/Sata/Pata/Dual channe/Hardware Firewall (Correct me on the firewal guys if i am mistaken) MSI Neo 2 Platinum ILSR
But is it available… I have tried to post wahtsoever is available here especially here in Delhi… If it is available in bombay than how much is it for…
Sata drives which can take advantage of existing 150 Mbps bandwidth have not been developed yet, so for 300 Mbps it is a long way off.
@ senfunn, since you wanted to reduce the price by 4.5K i merely pointed out that the baby brother of K8 neo4 platinum is avialable too. which is based on the plain nf4 chipset.
performance wise there is not much difference between the two.
The platinum just has more extra “features” like 2 onboard lans , firewire ports etc…and i guess a few extra o/c settings in the bios.
price wise internationally it is nearly half of platinum m/b. so i had assumed that similar pricing structure would be followed here too. hence when you posted those prices i was surprised.
international price of neo4 platinum is around $ 145 usd. and the K8N Neo4-F is priced around $ 82 usd.

Is neo4 platinum not comparable ?? for additional 500/- i prefer it .
Any flaws as such do kindly tell me .. … i’ll order the board tom. with my system ??
I enquired that neo2 platinum has been stopped and CI doesnt have it …
Since i wont upgrade for long … say 1- 11/2 years i prefer this board .
even though its 500/- extra i dont want to compromise on the mobo … any suggestions .
AND WHY ISNT INTERNATIONAL COST reflect in INDIA ??
Actually what all the guys are trying to say is that the Neo4 Platinum is merely a board with few extra features added but the basics of the board remains the same as in the Neo4-F. In other words Neo4 Platinum = Neo4-F + Few extra features.
In light of that they suggested the Neo4-F hoping the price would be significantly lower. Unfortunately that doesnt seem to be the case, and would save you only 800 bucks.
As to why international prices arent reflected here can only be guessed. I would assume PCI-Express boards and to an extent Socket 939 boards arent in much demand and hence prices tend to still be at the higher level
