Here is the Real world Protection Test Results for the month of August 2014 from the premier Security software testing company AV-Comparatives.

Avira, Bitdefender, Kaspersky, Emsisoft and Trend Micro are on the top.

and Avast as it turns out is not as good as sometimes its touted to be.

Used my laptop, 24*7 on the internet without any antivirus.(no infections)
Only when I got an ssd did I install Avast. And its been running smooth. A few false positives on ahem stiff maybe, but otherwise, its very light and keeps it simple. Not to mention free. Also the damn thing looks posh. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I dont trust most of these tests. They change all the time. Most times I think there is something funky going on with them.
