Okay fine, my computer is basically refusing to connect to any P2P software so I guess the only thing I can do is use BT.
Someone guide me through this.

What firewall are you using ? This could well be a lot of your problem.
No firewall.
and wht ISP?
Or your ISP may have blocked some ports, sorry can’t help in suggesting what to do if this is the case, a networking Guru needed here
Hey man, even the idiotic Windows firewall interferes with P2P clients (even BT), more so if SP2 is installed.
I am running Windows 98 here, and I’ve talked to my ISP (Sify) and they’ve said they have not blocked any ports.
