Buy a gpu or upgrade processor? Help!

Looking for advice on whether I should upgrade the processor or get a gpu for my kids pc. The PC is mainly used for playing GTA V and Dota 2 as of now. Kid stated that he wanted to play Rust but the pc currently is too weak to allow him to play Rust on a decently.
Pc is currently running on:

Processor: Ryzen 3 2200G

Motherboard: ASUS Prime A320M-K Am4 Uatx Motherboard with Led Lighting Ddr4 32Gb/S M.2 Hdmi Sata 6Gb/S USB 3.0

Ram: 16GB x2 8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000 (PC4-24000) C16 PC Memory (CMK8GX4M1D3000C16) Black

PSU: Ant Esports VS500L NonModular High Efficiency Gaming Power Supply/PSU with 1 x PCIe and 120mm Silent Fan

GPU: Gigabyte Radeon™ RX 6400 EAGLE 4G

I would say use some sort of app to see the CPU vs GPU usage during games

Honestly both are ok, but the first thing that concerns me is that the processor has a gpu which is unnecessary.

Second is that you have only 1 stick of ram. Upgrading to 2 sticks would be much more beneficial.

Could you also share how much you’re planning to spend on the upgrade?

Rust is quite CPU heavy. That seems to be the bottleneck here. You are also running a single stick of RAM which reduces performance of Ryzen CPUs significantly.

Get a Ryzen 5600/5600X and one more identical stick of RAM. Remember to upgrade your BIOS to the latest version before swapping the CPU.

If you upgrade to 5600, Your games will run more consistently with fewer stutters and frame drops. In CPU heavy scenarios or games like Rust, you may even see an increase in average/max FPS.

You actually need a GPU upgrade too. But if you upgrade that first, you will see increase in FPS but with worse stuttering due to CPU bottlenecks.

I suggest picking up a used CPU with warranty if possible. Then look to upgrading the GPU down the line.

I can spend around 15K in total so it’s not a lot actually

I can spend upto 15k and it’s not a lot to work with considering I need to upgrade both cpu and gpu haha

I guess used 3700/3700x wud also be gud, wud be even cheaper than 5600/5600x

If you’re willing to get used… Youre working with much more.

This is just an idea - maybe:

  • u can find a 2060 for around 12-13k used
  • u buy a b450 board and sell ur a320
    =Total money spent <15k!

It would support with no issues, just suggested as it would need to be upgraded at some time (but I guess cpu should come first)
Instead you could sell ur old processor and get a new one maybe a ryzen 3600. They go for around 6 to 7. Might be slightly above ur budget, but you won’t regret it :slight_smile:

If sticking to budget, maybe you could go for a 2600.

Your .motherboard is fine. Get either used CPU like 3600 /5600 etc many are on sale . sell your cpu . buy used 2060 /3060ti many are on sale .sell your 6400 .

And for the love of god ditch that power supply and buy something reputed. It’d be a shame if you upgraded stuff and the psu fried it the next day.
